places to live off campus?

Hi i am a sophomore at gatech and I was wondering what are the most popular places to live off campus. I am in woodruff right now but am trying to go off campus if i can find a place that is cheaper. Me and a friend are looking at apartments and are preffering to be as close to tech as possible.

Thanks

Close as in “within walking distance” or close as in “within a 10 minute drive”?

Most of the places within walking distance are either more expensive (consider utilities as well) or are places I wouldn’t want to live.

well ya that seems to be the problem for every place i look. where are the most popular places off campus for sophomores and juniors in general?

Again, do you have to be within walking distance?

Within walking distance, usually the North Ave Apartments, fraternity houses, and Home Park. If you can drive, look over on Defoors Ferry. If you’re willing to spend some cash, take a look at Post Biltmore.

You can really find some bargains if you look at where is easily accessible to Tech but outside of campus a ways. For example, I live in Buckhead a 5 minute walk from the MARTA station and my apartment rent (split between me and my roommate) is 990 a month (1100 sq ft). With utilities/internet/MARTA pass, it comes to about 550-600 a month for each of us. My commute to class is about 20-30 minutes, which isn’t bad at all, and it costs me over $200 less per month than living on campus.

As it turns out, they’re jacking up the housing rates again and so all the more reason to not live in campus. Tech continues to be the only school I know of where you actually pay a premium to live on campus.

Yeah Tech housing is expensive as balls. I live in Home Park and it’s pretty straight. $395 a month for a 5 bedroom with 3 bath, hardwood floors, dish washer, central air/heat, parking, and washer/dryer. Literally a 3 minute walk to my classes, quicker than when I was a freshman and living in Glenn. And your close to a lot of parties during the weekend if your the type who doesn’t like to shell out tons to go to the bar.

Just live close to 10th street. Anywhere between Center and Atlantic is technically the ‘good part’ of Home Park. There’s a lot of nice houses there, a lot of old people live there too, and they always keep things looking nice. On the other side of Center, as you start going closer to Hemphill is a little more dumpy and less safe. So it’d probably be good to have a car or bike if you live in that area and are gonna be coming home late.
