Anyone ever stayed at Whispering Pines Bed and Breakfast?
Not me. I stayed at OU’s facility itself during orientation. It is ok and convenient but nothing special.
Tyler recommended the Courtyard by Marriott and said there’s an OU rate there. The discount is smallish, $5-10/night, but every bit helps. We went with the Comfort Inn & Suites on Copperfield. It will be fairly basic, but it was half the cost of the Courtyard and the reviews were decent. Haven’t stayed there yet, so I can’t say anything from experience.
I have always had good luck going with Hotwire and choosing a property with high ratings and free breakfast. You don’t find out where you are staying until you book and pay for the stay, but it has worked out for us: 2 stays at Country Inn and Suites and another at La Quinta, both on Ed Noble Pkwy.
Big fans of the Embassy Suites. For graduation, we are going up and back same day. DW has decided that we are not going to the big ceremony, only the ‘college’ one where they say his name.
Just back from a stay at the NCED (nat’l center for employee dev’t)- which is a large conference center and hotel very near campus. Though it is a USPS training place, it is run by Marriott-- I got a great price on a room; very nice breakfast (much nicer than typical hotel breakfast); great fitness facilities. Very short, easy drive to campus. Highly recommend it… sadly they are already booked for the days I need for move out- but I will stay here in August for move in.
Here’s my report on Whispering Pines, really more of a couples place. There is the main house and a cottage with two rooms (Emerald and Rose) closer to the street. Do not stay in these rooms if you are a light sleeper there’s a lot of traffic noise. The odd thing is there is a window that faces toward the street with blinds but no curtains (there is a curtain rod) but the the window that faces away from the street has booth curtains and blinds. I think curtains on the window would do a lot to reduce traffic noise. I did not notice the traffic noise at the main house. Breakfast is served on the late
for me earliest possibly is 8:30
I would not recommend staying here unless you are doing a couples weekend and then only stay in the main house.
I do however recommend eating in their restaurant! True fine dining, wonderful food, great service and reasonable prices.
@oneundecided can’t believe you already have reservations for move in, I’m such a slacker! I’ll look into NCED for August.
On one of our early visits, my son and I stayed at the Montford Inn B&B in Norman and I really liked it. Now when my husband goes with me to visit with always stay at the Embassy Suites because he likes the breakfast, but it’s not as close to campus at Montford Inn is.
