What placement tests are required during Orientation? How can I sign up?

All students will take a math skills assessment and foreign language placement exam as part of their Orientation Program. There is no need to sign-up for either of these tests, although you may be asked which language test you intend to take when making your reservation.

What optional tests are offered during summer orientation?

Students may take optional placement/exemption exams in Biology, Calculus, and Chemistry. The Chemistry exam is available online and should be taken prior to June 1. Biology and Calculus are offered the evening prior to your program and in the early morning before your program begins. While not required in most cases, these tests can provide students with exemption credit or placement in to higher level classes. There is one other opportunity to take Biology and Calculus in the fall, but it’s ideal to take it prior to meeting with your advisor at New Student Orientation.

If you intend to pursue science majors you should plan to take the Chemistry optional exam so that advisors can best help you in choosing appropriate courses. You will not be able to register for some Chemistry courses without this exam.
