Placing out of Foreign Language credit.

Hello everyone. I was wondering how may one place out of a foreign language credit? I am an international student fluent in both Spanish and English. I do not want to waste my time (and money!) taking a single course in a foreign language I will not be able to fully pursue during my studies (Engineering major here, no real time to learn a new language) so I was wondering if I could use my SAT II Spanish scores (800) or take a placement test to obtain credit for a foreign language, Spanish in this case, in order to save some money and time.
thank you!

Cornell offers language placement exams during orientation....but that's about all I know :-)

I'm sure you'll get more info as August comes....

SAT II scores are used for placing people into the right course. To place out, you have to either have a 4 on an AP test or take the placement exam. The latter has two phases -- if you score a 65 on the first, more basic test, you'll be invited to take the CASE (advanced standing exam). You get 3 credits if you do well enough on the CASE.

I don't believe there is a foreign language requirement for engineering. I think you have to take chem and physics and an introductory engineering class but no foreign language requirement.

***!?! Chem?

Would it then be possible to take the CASE and then use the credit as an elective? I'm really looking forward to skip as many not-very-important courses as I can to save some time and money.

what do you mean by money? you pay the same no matter what you take.

If you got a really high score on the SATII, would you be able to place out?

In general, SAT II scores will not give you actual course credit, although they will exempt you from having to take an introductory course in a language you already know (placing out =/= getting credit). The only exception seems to be in German Studies in Arts and Sciences.

So there's a foreign language placement exam? I'm fluent in both Spanish and English, and have been learning French for 3 years... Is it possible to take a French placement exam?? Is there even a foreign language requirement for Architecture students?? (I honestly have no idea XD)
