Placing out with 5's?

If I have a 5 in AP Calc BC, and the college allows me to "place out" of their first year calc class, does that mean I don't have to take math that year?

Or does it mean I'd only get put into a sophomore math class as a freshman??

It depends on your major. Assuming that your college allows your AP score to skip one or more frosh-level math courses…

If your major requires more advanced math, then it is to your advantage to take the more advanced course in your frosh year, because it may be a prerequisite course for other courses in your major, so you will gain additional schedule flexibility as to when to take those subsequent courses.

If your major does not require more advanced math, then you may not need to take any additional math at all.

It would be a good idea to check the college’s final exams for courses that you are allowed to skip to make sure that you know the material well from the college’s point of view.

^This.

Also, you’ll forget a lot if you go a year without math. I’d start with Calc III or something.
