Quick question: on a college application in the awards section, how far is too far to go?
As in, if you place in an event (but not 1st), what do you think is the furthest out you could be to include it?

I'd say it depends on the event. If you come in 2nd nationally for a sport, I'd say yes. If it's something local, relatively unknown, and not prestigious or competitive...probably not.

What about on the state level (for a sport).
It's not a team sport, it's individual.

I'd definitely put that down. Placing statewide in an individual sport is still very impressive.

Any other opinions?

yeah, i must say i'm interested too. How about getting 1st place at a town-wide contests or something. Worth putting down? And how about placing countywide for a sport? (no athletic abilities sigh)

Oh, and to the OP, definitely put it down if u place statewide!

(But that's the thing- it's only 5th place... but I absolutely love the sport. I may not be the best, but it's still an incredible passion of mine).

I say yes to the townwide 1st place thing definitely. I have a few of those for math (although it was town wide, anyone in the state could compete).

hmmm...i'm not the best person to ask but i think 5th is the borderline, so definitely put it...after that, maybe not. hope that helps!

it depends on the number of people taking part
like 5th out of 50 isn't that great, but to get 5th out of 500 is a big deal
