Plain math major vs applied math major with Pre-Med?

I am currently deciding between an applied math major or just a math major that I will definitely couple with premed courses. I do not plan to double major, though I am not completely opposed to it. Just thought it wouldn’t be the smartest choice since premed pre req courses tend to be hard and I want to focus a good chunk of time on maintaining my grades and extracurriculars.

I always thought I would do a major in math and be on the premed track. I chose math as opposed to applied math mainly because it is maybe a couple courses less to get that major, which I can then use for extra bio classes.

However, I am now uncertain, since applied math will briefly breach into biomath applications, which will relate more to my ultimate career goal. Applied math will also have many more courses that could help me get a job I wouldn’t mind if I don’t get into medical school. A math major would too, but I feel as though applied math would allow me to be closer to the medical field.

My question is: Should I go for a math major with premed or applied math with premed? Also, should I double major or get a minor in biology or not try for that at all? Is this any of this doable/ recommended while maintaining extracurriculars?

Both of my daughters were math + another science double majors. D1 was an applied math/physics double major.D2 was a math/biological neuroscience double major. So double major + pre-med ECs is do-able.

Applied math vs math is entirely up to you. Both offer great alternative career options for students who end up not going to med school.

Don’t bother with a bio minor or a bio second major unless that is something you truly want to pursue and/or have a strong interest in. A bio minor/major won’t help you with med school admissions and it won’t help you find an biomath job either. (Biomath jobs will usually teach you the biology you need to know…)
