Plan if not accepted?

I am in the process of applying to the AFA and have recently begun thinking about what to do if I am not accepted. I know that I defiantly want to attend the Academy and was wondering about the best thing to do in the mean time if I am not accepted and am going to reapply. Would it be worth it to apply to a four-year university or would I be better off just going to a community college for a year? University apps are going to be due soon so I would appreciate any advice someone can give me. (Also I realize that AFROTC is also a good avenue to become an officer and will pursue that option if needed but I am really set on going to the AFA.)

WHEN will you pursue that option? Many people have already begun the process of applying for an HSSP AFROTC scholarship at the end of their junior years and beginning of their senior years.

USAFA is sometimes referred to as the “little engineering school in the Rockies”. As a plan C (after the AFROTC scholarship application) I would recommend you attend a four year college with an AFROTC Detachment on campus. Join the detachment (and wow them with your enthusiasm and effort) and pursue many of the same classes that you would take the first year at USAFA…physics, calculus, chemistry, English and a foreign language. Doing well on those classes will be helpful in demonstrating to USAFA that you can handle their academics. A strong recommendation from your detachment will also help your cause.

Good luck.
