Plan II acceptance for 2014 Fall class

Hi all, Does the post above mean that the honor admission becomes invalid if NON-AUTO applicant does not receive the admission from any of non-honor majors they are applying? Probably I misunderstood the post. I know the university will reject any students who do not complete the State required curriculum at the end of Senior year regardless auto or non- auto applicant. Just like to verify. Thanks!

Accepted to Plan II. Waiting on Engineering Honors/general admission to the school. I’m from Texas, but I go to a private school that doesn’t rank. Submitted my app on Oct. 15, Supplemental Information form received by UT Oct. 16, transcript received by UT Oct. 17.

I received a phone call a couple of weeks ago where someone from UT answered some questions I had about the school. I asked when I would receive notification of my application results and noted that I didn’t qualify for auto-admission; the person on the line said I wouldn’t receive results until March.

When should I expect to receive a formal decision on admission? I’m hoping for mid-December if possible.

Yes. It can and does happen.

The person at UT already answered that for you. Based on previous years, mid-March is accurate, maybe even later.

Thanks. Collegeshopping! Does it really mean that an admitted student by Plan II even cannot make the enrollment deposit, housing contract deposit etc. until possibly mid-March when they receive another admission from individual department they have applied? If so, this sounds that Plan II admission letter means not much if you are a non-auto admit until you get admitted from other UT major or college, which is not easy at all for non-auto admit applicants because 75% of class is filled by auto-admit. This is a little weird. >=<

UT students can have Plan II as single major if they are admitted to the competitive Plan II honors program. So, I think the plan II admission letter means UT admission. I checked Plan II web site but couldn’t get an answer. And I don’t remember that the Plan II director didn’t mention about this kind of case when we were in the information session. Although my D doesn’t care since she is in auto-admit, I am curious about this case.

A student can be admitted into Plan II which is an honors program but not a “college” The College of Liberal Arts will have to admit the student and that does not necessarily happen in order. In order to even have access to the Plan II application, you have to choose “The College of Liberal Art” in “ApplyTexas”. This means the College of Liberal Arts has to offer you admission, and yes this can take until the spring. From the Admission Tab of the Plan II website

Collegeshopping, I still don’t interpret the quote you made from Plan II web site same way you did. If rejected by Plan II, the applicant can still wait for other college’s admission process without any further action.
FYI, an application through ApplyTexas is a pre-requisite for Honors application like Plan II and any other Honors.
But mine is just interpretation, not confirmation by UT’s admission office.

Does anybody hear from the Engineering school ? My S is auto admit, but haven’t heard from the Engineering School, and when will UT let us know?

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a Plan II question that I haven’t been able to get an answer to. Do students give thank you presents to their thesis readers? The readers spend so much time working with the student over the course of a year that I would think a thank you gift might be appropriate. However, if it’s not done, I don’t want to suggest to my son that he give gifts. If gifts are appropriate, what should they be?

Collegeshopping, Dad2013, Thank you for your insights. Personally, I don’t think that a non auto-admit who received the Honor offer needs to worry about this. But it was a topic enough to be curious about. Thanks again.

Once admitted, is there a merit-base scholarship to be offered from the Plan II program? The brochure says the scholarship is mostly need-base and merit base is very limited. Still wondering about a chance for the merit scholarship for the Plan II admitted students, even though it is limited. If there is, do we have to apply for it separately, when can we know? How does the scholarship process work in general? Thanks…

Did you complete the scholarship portion of the Texas ap? If so, you will be considered for the merit based scholarships offered. One merit scholarship available to Plan II students is the Dedman Scholarship. Only 5 of these are offered. Also, if you have a 3.9+ after the first year, there is another scholarship available to liberal arts students, but I can’t remember the name of it. This information is based on my son’s experiences 4 years ago, so some information might be out of date.

To those who have already received their decision from Plan II: When did y’all turn in your applications? I turned in mine on 11/5ish. When do you think I’ll hear back?

My D turned in the honor application (including Plan II) by Oct 15th as the UT honors programs recommended for early consideration. I believe the Plan II admission office will pick majority of students from the regular pool (official due date of Dec 1st) and so don’t be panic on your case. If you have a good stats (;Plan II will do a holistic review not just a rank only), you will be ok.

I turned in my app the week after Oct 15 and got my acceptance last week :)

Today my son’s profile got updated and he got Engg Honors (ECE) confirmation. He already got Plan II on Nov 27. Applied on Oct 21st…something in hand now and waiting on other schools…

Congratulations. My D’s status didn’t show any Honors update. She applied to both Deans Scholar(;no news yet) and Plan II (;accepted in 11/27). Business and Engineering Honor admin offices are deligent but Natural Science are not probably due to too many applicants. :(

I submitted my honors app on October 20th and got my Plan II acceptance last week. Still waiting on Health Science Scholars though.
