Plan II acceptance for 2014 Fall class

Does anyone know if this is possible and appropriate? My child got the UT acceptance, including Plan II. We have also applied a few more schools out of state. Although the UT honor program is her top choice, we would like to see the results of other applications in early April. Can we make the enrollment deposit to secure honor housing, summer orientation etc. while we are waiting for admission decision from other universities? Or if we make an enrollment deposit to the UT, does it mean we commit and have to withdraw other applications? We slightly remember that Common Application says that we can make the enrolment deposits to ONLY one college. Does it mean that we cannot register the UT honor housing and summer orientation until we hear the admission decision from other schools in April? I am concerned that honor housing may be quickly filled if we wait until April. Thanks…

All the Plan II info said that enrollment deposits are refundable until May 1. Housing deposits are as well.

really ? I thought the housing deposit($50) is non-refundable. It’s not big money and so I made the deposit for my daughter (;Plan II accepted and waiting for Dean’s scholar and Merit scholarship offers from UT). Not sure for enrollment deposit, though.

I don’t think the housing deposit is refundable.

From my son’s housing contract:

If you are a first time freshman not attending the University and you cancel by informing Admissions and Housing of your decision on or before May 1, you will not be charged liquidated damages and your Advance Payment will be refunded.

Dad2013, the Plan II acceptance letter stated (at least once, but I think twice) that the enrollment deposit is refundable if you notify them before May 1 that your daughter will not attend.

Thanks for all input! When we submitted the applications to other colleges through Common App, I remember (not 100% sure the exact word though) that applicant had to sign electronically the agreement that we will not make more than one enrollment deposit. Something like that. Maybe, UT does not mind it. Did anyone accept the offer already? Do you think the chance of merit scholarship could diminish once the enrollment deposit made?

This is what we sign on Common Application.

“I affirm that I will send an enrollment deposit (or equivalent) to only one institution; sending multiple deposits (or equivalent) may result in the withdrawal of my admission offers from all institutions. [Note: students may send an enrollment deposit (or equivalent) to a second institution where they have been admitted from the waitlist, provided that they inform the first institution that they will no longer be enrolling.”

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with the Plan II waitlist?

The waitlist is usually small (Under 50) and they will go to it if the number of students that accept their admissions is low. Typically maybe 15-20 kids come off the waitlist and that does not happen until May. You have to respond to their letter about the waitlist though.

@collegeshopping Thank you so much! Those chances look pretty good.

@tardisgirl17. It would not hurt for you to include a personal note about how important the program is to you!!

@collegeshopping Good idea! I will do that. Thanks again!
