Plan II - Class of 2021

very quiet since 2/7 - my DS is REALLY hoping that next week brings a wave of good news!

@ATXDAD15 If it helps my GPA was not very competitive and I still received admission

Hey! Sorry I’m late but I also got into Plan II a few weeks ago!

Congrats!

Has anyone heard back recently? Since one of my deadlines to accept a scholarship at another school is coming up at the end of February… (which is really early, I think, aha), I’d like to at least know if I’m accepted to Plan II or not before I accept/deny the scholarship.

Try calling the office of admission and explaining??

Stupidly submitted honors application on Dec 1 deadline but already received major acceptance late December and LAH acceptance Feb 9. Should I be worried I haven’t heard back from plan ii? wondering if anyone else is in the same boat

Happened to check the MyStatus, and was denieddd. Oh well. ://

I was denied as well

Another denial here. Oh well, at least we all tried!

Sorry to hear about all the denials. Curious, though, if all those denied had Liberal Arts as their first-choice/offered majors, or non-LA? The Plan-II Honors page sure makes it look like it’s a Liberal Arts program: https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/plan2/. Is that true? Or, am I missing anything?

Plan II is a liberal arts programs but it’s commonly combined with majors from other schools, such as natural science or engineering.

@ivy2021, right, but it also supposedly applies to students seeking Bachelor of Arts degree. Does that mean, it’s not for kids opting for BS in CNS?

@CollegeDadTX I believe that students in CNS can also have Plan II. On their site:

“Plan II Honors students combine their Plan II major and Business majors with the Business Honors Program, Plan II and their Engineering major with Engineering Honors, Plan II and their Natural Science major with Dean’s Scholars, and Plan II and their Computer Science major with Turing Scholars”
And also:
“Close to 35% complete a second degree, such as a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Business Administration, along with the Bachelor of Arts diploma.”

@CollegeDadTx my DD has been admitted to CS in CNS and Plan II. My Junior LHD is in Business Honors (BHP) and she has fellow BHP friends that are also in Plan II, if that helps.

@AustinFace, it certainly does clarify things for me. Thanks, and good for you and your kiddos!

My S was fortunate to be accepted Plan II + McCombs in December. As he makes his decision, we’ve been concerned about the info sent by Plan II regarding dual majors. The “Welcome to Plan II” book includes a 2016 Senior Exit Survey of 99 Plan II grads. Only 65% reported graduating in 4 years! Another 16% took 4.5 & a final 16% reported needing 5 years. This stat did not break out the dual or triple degree recipients from the Plan II only group. But another stat in the booklet (from the same survey group) listed half of the 99 answered surveys as “multiple degree” recipients & another 28% as “multiple majors”.

This week he spoke with a current junior who is Plan II + McCombs (marketing). She thinks she’ll graduate in 4 years but admitted she brought 12 APs w/her to UT from her big public HS.

We think Plan II is terrific, but we are also feeling like it will probably be a 4+ year process for my S to graduate. He will not be bringing many APs with him (his private school emphasized honors classes over APs… now I understand why the big public Texas high schools offer so many APs!).

Please comment or DM me if you have insight as to dual degree Plan II 4 year grad experience. Thank you!!

@Notknot77098, have you looked at a sample 4 year course schedule?

If not you can look here: https://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/BHP/Academics/Flexible-Degree-Plan

Not sure if your S is BHP or not. But the link will show a BHP + Plan II sample schedule. BHP + Plan II can be done in 4 years with a busy schedule including taking 3 courses a summer for 2 summers. That is busy. [If S isn’t BHP, I would expect a similar schedule just replacing BHP courses with his major courses and general business courses]

Now, if someone has a lot of APs, then the schedule is much better. For my case, with 13 APs, BHP + Plan II can be done in 4 years by taking 4-5 courses each semester and no summers.

Without any APs (or few), I can image students taking 4.5 or 5 years.

@Notknot77098, also here is a link to Degree plans for all the McCombs majors: https://my.mccombs.utexas.edu/BBA/Advising/Degree-Planning/Degree-Plans

Just click on the 2016-2018 option for his major. You can use the course list to see what a 4 year sequence would look like for his major + Plan II.

@HYPSPlease Thank you for the links. These are helpful. It is clearly a packed schedule (including summer work) to dual degree. No, my S has offer from regular McCombs + Plan II, and he will have 2 - 3 APs tops.
