Hi everybody! I’m a high school senior basically deciding between Plan II at UT austin or U Virginia, and I’m leaning toward Plan II right now. But, I’m also from a small town in Texas and was hoping to go out of state for undergrad, even though uva is obviously more expensive. It’s not that I dont like texas, I was just hoping to get to go out of state. any suggestions or thoughts as to what you would do? Thanks for all advice.
Austin shares almost no similarities with most rural Texas small towns. Additionally, Plan II is an excellent program if you think you’re a match for its academic philosophy. Personally, I think UT is a much better choice given the cost, academic benefits, and massive change in environment, even if you’ll still be in the same state.
From an academic point of view UT Austin is very much the equal of UVa. They are both highly regarded by your future employers.
That’s what I was thinking, that austin is very different anyway (my town has 200,000 pop. so not tiny but a lot smaller than austin). Also, I have known people who rejected washu in st louis and carnegie mellon for plan II, so plan ii may be a lot better choice compared to another public school like uva. Any other thoughts if I’m thinking medical school for the future?
