plan II

has anyone received acceptance into plan II regular decisions yet (do they email or mail)? And can i still send in SAT scores for like scholarships and stuff?

Yeah I just received regular decision for Plan II today and apparently someone else did too and posted under the accepted thread.

Yep
Got it in a big yellow envelope.
=]

Apparently, other plan II students read your essays?
(Except for first years)

that would be pretty cool (if it's true). i got in too, guys! yayyy :]

Congrats bellerevolte :]
You're in Dean's Scholars too, right?
yay go us double honors programs people! (except I'm in the engineering one)

Does anyone have any idea if they're still sending out Plan II acceptances bits at a time or if they sent them all out at once? I still have a few friends waiting to hear, and I'd like to think that there's a chance they could be there with me next year!

Yeah that's what my best friend who's in Plan II said (first year though)
I'm pretty surprised I got in...
xD

those who got in to plan 2, can u post ur stats nd when u applied?

Sure, here's a brief list of my stats, mostly just the numbers:

SAT I: 1530/2230 (780M/750CR/700W)
SAT II: 760 Math II, 730 Biology E, 720 Literature
GPA: 4.0/4.0 UW, 5.7944/6.0 W
Rank: 4/579 (top 5 people/top 1%)
Key ECs: Neurosurgery Internship, One-woman solo "rock" band
Key Awards: National Champion in a healthcare competition, National Merit Finalist
Most Rigorous Courseload, 5 APs senior year, 10 APs by graduation

omz...Congrats on your fine academic accomplishments. Also, you're very savvy about programs, awards, scholarships, etc.

National Merit Scholarships eminate from the NMSC, however, the bulk of them come from corporations and sponsoring universities. As a NMF, do you know what UT's rationale is in awarding a NMSC sanctioned National Merit Scholarship? In other words, is the $13,000 offered to NM Finalists tantamount to being named a National Merit Scholar?

On another note, you may have another career waiting for you on Sixth Street with your One-woman solo "rock" band.

I'll post my stats as well. I applied early consideration back in November and got my acceptence package around December 15.

SAT I: 1280/2030 (640M/640CR/750W) (pretty low, I know... I'm not a good test taker)
ACT: 28 (34E, 27R, 27M, 25S)
GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 6.84/7.00 weighted
Rank: 2/221
ECs: Newspaper editor (3 years), All-State Journalist (3 years), French Horn Section Leader (3 years), UIL Journalism (4 years) and state alternate (2 years)
Awards: GT Student of the Year, Optimist Club Student of the Year
Most difficult course offered - 7 AP tests
Also, my junior year I completed a HUGE independent study project where I created a journalism website (the only one of its kind) and received the highest scores in the state - VERY research intensive (notebook was 250-300 pages, over 100 sources)

Yeah, some my stats don't shine like other Plan II people, but writing is definitely my thing

SAT I
Quite low...
CR - 610 W - 660 M - 720

SAT II
Chemistry 710 Math II 780

GPA 4.25 W 3.75UW
Rank 14/162

Heavy course-load (only AP class I didn't take is Spanish)
Current courses: AP Physics, AP Biology, AP Macroeco, AP Lit, and AP Cal AB
(Plus Art 2 and double-period HST)
3 years Spanish
7 sciences (IPC, chem 1&2, bio 1&2, physics 1&2)
5 math (algebra 1&2, geom, precal, cal)
6 health science credits (mandatory)
4 english

EXTRA CURRICULAR

Clubs:
Cultural: Fil-Am (VP and Pres); Jewish (Sec); Vietnamese
National Honor Society; Spanish Honor Society
Health Occupations Students of America
Chapter Reporter and President
Area II Vice-President
SECME

500 documented community service hours
St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital (150) and church (130) to name a few

Baylor College of Medicine BIOS program
=summer research
BCM and Center for ENT
=externship program; clinicals; shadowing; viewing surgery

Nothing amazing. Below Plan II standards. [shrug]

miss zanna - yup, i'm in dean's scholars too! double honors program people rock! :]

i applied in late november, i think.
my stats
sat: 770m. 770cr. 800 w = 2340
sat ii: bio 720, math ii 790
rank: 1/580
gpa (w): 4.68/5
ECs: managing ed. school newspaper, officer in 3 math/science/health-related clubs, hospital student volunteer pres. (but no research)
awards: various piano stuff, houston chronicle writing contest winner, uil editorial writing state, national merit finalist, ap scholar with honor

i think it was my essay that put me over the top, though. i wrote it on 'alice in wonderland'. i'm curious to know what everyone else wrote it on!

the $13,000 is the amount of money ut will offer national merit scholars who name ut as their first choice. i think it falls under the "college-sponsored scholarships" category. the other two are corporate-sponsored and that $2500 one-time thing from nmsc. i believe the college-sponsored ones usually give the most money, of the three types, so the $13,000 is the best deal you can get from ut and nmsc, as a national merit finalist.

hey bluefalcon245, you go to DeBakey, don't you?
(Either way, you're in Area II, so I'm on the right track with my assumptions)
Well if you do, I go to the arrogant, arrogant school your school hates the most [apparently] at area HOSA.
See if you can figure that one out ;]

^^ Hightower? lol just a random guess. I'm in area 6 (Klein) but yea... Hightower's pretty annoying at state. Is area II the area that always win most spirited or watever at state? we're pretty subdued by their standard.

bluefalcon: what's the deal with the Houston Premedical Academy? I was wondering what would be the advantage of that over other medical school track (besides the automatic acceptance into med school)? I mean wouldnt the top students at Debakey prefer schools ranked in the top 20 and strong in premed over U of H?

haha YES you're correct.
We're the most obnoxious of the most obnoxious.
We take the most to nationals hehehehe
And you're talking to a National First Placer here. yay :]

Haha yeah, I do go to DeBakey
I don't have anything against Hightower, since I work with them for Area

Advantages of Houston Premedical Academy...
It's much easier compared to other programs (since it is UH) and you end up at Baylor. Also the competition isn't as fierce as other programs (Baylor/Baylor only has 2 spots, i think; Rice/Baylor is nationwide)
Before this year, the UH and Baylor part was paid for, so tuition for all 8 years in the program is paid for (pretty amazing)
Premed kids get to do research all over the country and the world in their sophomore and junior year in college..
You only need a minimum score of 27 on the MCATs to be admitted to Baylor

Overall it's a pretty good program. You don't work as hard, but still get to a really good med school. All of our top kids usually end up taking the Premed scholarship instead of top-tiered schools. A few of our kids were admitted to Rice/Baylor and end up taking it, but for the most part everyone just takes HPA. It's usually a money issue.

ohh miss zanna I guess I'll be seeing you on Friday/Saturday
say hi if you see me! =] I'll be on stage for the most part
Area II sucks at state, btw. We NEVER get most spirited!
I do parli, usually. But since HPA interviews are on the same day as Area this year, I'm not sure if we're doing it (we did sign up though).

Oh yeah, this year Baylor decided not to pay for the med school portion of the program
So most of my classmates are actually going to top-tiered schools instead of HPA. 6 people already got into Rice and are most likely going, 1 to MIT, another to Case, Harvard (but waiting on Rice/Baylor), Emory...
So this year's PreMed group is gonna be..different

I'm most likely gonna end up at UT.. xD
I don't want to graduate in 5 years though (if i double major)
[tear]

ohh miss zanna you go to hightower? well what a small world, i go to another high school in fbisd. i was going to go to hhs for the medical academy but when i went to freshman orientation i didn't feel i would like the overall atmosphere of the school. i have two friends from middle school who go there though. maybe you even know them haha.

Yes, we do. :-) Student evaluators are a really important part of Plan II admissions.

They're still sending them out. The last round of student evaluations was Thursday, so they're nowhere close to being done
