I am in the top ten percent of my class and I am going to apply to Plan II. What make a great essay because they say that weighs alot on your acceptance and what score should i aim for on the SAT

Honestly, you can’t really tell someone how to write a Plan II essay. It’s a lot about the student’s inate personality and how he expresses that in his writing. Being able to produce a well-wrought essay is a definite plus, and a lot of that has to do with how well you’ve been trained in class and how well you’ve learned to refine your essay. But honestly a good Plan II essay really just comes naturally–that’s what Plan II is looking for. It’s very difficult to try hard to write a Plan II essay because it will come off as contrived and the admissions staff will be able to tell this in your writing.

SAT score-wise, you should aim for as close to 1600 as possible. There are kids in the 1200 range in Plan II, and there are kids in the 1500+ range. The higher the better, but ALL of your numbers, including GPA and class rank and test scores, put together only are 20% of Plan II’s criteria, so you can get kids who are valedictorians and have 1600 SATs rejected, and kids with C averages accepted. The higher the score, though, the better the chance.
