Okay, I am a Sophomore at Dr. Ronald E. McNair Academic High School. It has been ranked 43 In the U.S. as of 2011. I got 1 C last year (as a freshman) and was not in any sports. I was in Key Club, and took APUSH (received a 4) and take AP Physics B this year. I have worked hard and improved my grades this year. I am also in a Mathematics club in my school Called Epsilon club and tutor kids. I get about 9 Community service hours every week by tutoring kids and helping special needs children. I do about 200 hours every summer in India for youth groups. I have As and Bs on my report card, and I also work at a doctor's office (unpaid). I am planning on joining sports this year, and I am going to run for leadership posts for Key Club and Epsilon Club. I have been invited to NSLC, Stanford EPGY, and I have also been invited to Mock Trial (by the Association itself) and I am partaking in ModelUN this Year. Can you suggest more things that I should do or whatever else so that I may have a shot at getting into Princeton University? I have been doing better to get my grades up, and they are improving, I will probably have all As by the end of the year.

It is great you are doing so much with your community already, but if you really want to push it to the next level you may want to start a community service of your own.

Starting your own community service shows leadership and initiative, and more importantly true commitment to helping other people. This shows some when you are parts of other services, but never as much as doing it yourself.

Also, you didn’t mention any attention to your SAT scores. This is a very important factor is getting accepted into a college, and acquiring scholarships. I would start by taking the SAT as often and soon as possible.

Also, out of curiosity, is your enrollment in AP Physics and APUSH as a sophomore normal for your district? I’m a sophomore as well, and can only take APUSH next year, and I will have to get special permission to take AP Physics next year.

No, my school is the only one in my district that does allow freshman and sophomores to take APs, I took The US History Subject SATs, and I recieved a 710, I have started Kaplan and Princeton Review classes for the SATs, how would I start my own Community service? I was thinking of initiating a drive at school for underprivileged kids, umm Thanks for the speedy reply!

Oh, and I am not very athletic, so what should I do about that?

the C was in PE and health btw, it’s because of my irregularity in uniform, so I have fixed that this year.

Guys please if you see this, please help! Reply, i need tips.

As and Bs won’t cut it for Princeton. Over the course of the next few months, learn the skills you’ll need to get and maintain straight As. Your transcript grades are often not representative of your intelligence. Instead, they are more indicative of your study skills, discipline, and ability to adapt to new teachers and new coursework. These skills matter, so get them down. You may have a shot at Princeton!

There are also a few sports that don’t really require you to be athletic. Fencing is a great example, and I know someone who was recruited by Princeton for fencing from my school. If fencing fails, then that’s okay, too! You don’t really need a sport to get into college.

I also find your volunteer experiences abroad, NSLC, and EPGY to be pretty pretentious ways to spend your summer. They’re more descriptive of your family’s ability to pay for them than your own talents.

Try to find focus when selecting your extracurricular activities. Showcase one quality or interest through them that makes you different from most other applicants. Good luck!
