Plan To Major In Broadcast Journalism

Im a senior in High school, with a GPA of about 3.4.-3.6. I plan to major in Broadcast journalism. Im from New York and have lived here most of my life but I am aware that the universities here in NY are just too expensive (example: nyu) and have horrible financial aid.

Im trying to go to a good college that I can pay and live in a dorm without a headche (money wise).

My list right now currently has:

Temple University
Penn State
Rutgers (New Brunswick)
Florida International University

Im blatino, maybe theres scholarships I can apply for? Out of the 4 mentioned schools, which do you all reccomend? Do yall have any reccomendations of your own that you suggest?

I also have 2 "dream" schools in mind, Syracuse and Northwestern, though the Chicago area is kind of too far for me but yeah.

I think Chapel Hill has a good journalism program?

Utah is supposed to be great for TV anchors.

Western Kentucky has an excellent broadcast journalism/communications program and the school isn't hard to get into. WKU is less expensive and selective than the other schools listed (Tuition is $12,000 for out of staters and acceptance rate is 93%).

I was interested in Journalism and applied to Chapel Hill (great school! and they gave me good finaid), U. of Southern California, Northwestern (decided to go here, though not for journalism), Texas Austin and Wisconsin Madison. Definitely apply to Northwestern, you never know if you don't try!

hi, I went to columbia grad. one of my classmates went to florida international as an undergrad and she was amazing. learned a lot from her in grad school. If she is representative of the broadcast program there then go for it.

BYU is an excellent school for this major. Several national and many local TV journalists are BYU grads.

Thats interesting. I love the miami area and have heard good things bout FIU. What turns me off is that it seems that after im done studying in FIU im a have to move back here (North east) because Journalism aint big down there.

The University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. The first & the best!!!

Oh, yo want to live in a dorm, cross Temple out, worst asthetics and housing of any 1st tier school.

LOL, I don't know if you're getting this guy to go to Brigham Young.

If you want to stay in NYC and study broadcast journalism, affordably, Mercy College is your best option, $15,000 plus decent financial aid.

Nah, i dont want to travel too far down.

Studying in NY is going to be impossible. Syracuse costs a fortune and the acceptance rate is something else.

I took Florida International out of the list because I found out that over 70% of the students are commuters and I dont feel like traveling down to Florida (from NY) to be in a "commuter" college environment. No thanks. The idea of miami was nice though.

Cr8tive1, wat you think bout the colleges in your area (boston)? Like Emerson, Northeastern?

bump bump bump

Do not disregard Missouri so off-handedly. It is probably among the best top three undergraduate schools of journalism & communications in the country.
