PLAN vs PSAT

my s took the PLAN testw/out any prep in 10th grade( we did not even know what it was or that it would be given) and now he will take PSAT in Oct this yr of 11th grade.

He did avg on the PLAN ( this is the practice version of the ACT) how can he up his score and be ready for the PSAT? Do you think there is alot of difference and it what ways between these tests?

Also how indicative are PSAT scores in Oct of sucess on the SAT given in May?

Is it worth taken the real SAT in october as well as the PSAT the hs administers just to have another shot at a good score or should he wait till May and possible retake in the following Oct of sr yr?

In my experience, PSAT scores have closely mirrored SAT scores. With the exception of the length of the test and the added free-reponse essay, the PSAT and SAT are nearly the same. The PSAT score report (which you should get back sometime in the December or Janaury following the test) contains a range of scores for the SAT equivalent score. For example, someone may get a 64 on the reading section of the PSAT; the score report will spit out a range of scores... oh, 540-740 for arguement, that that person can expect to score on the SAT.

I would wait until after the PSAT to take the SAT test. That way your son can have a feel for how the test is, prepare, and then get serious for the real SAT.

As far as the ACT stuff goes, I don't know anything about the ACT.

Ohh, PLAN... what a waste of money. You can get a test prep book for the ACTs with less money. At least the PSAT has the scholarship involved. And the PLAN is different from the PSAT, especially vocabulary.

And why take the SAT in May? Take it in January.

PSAT correlates with the SAT. I got a 2180 on the PSAT and then a 2200 on the SAT. Only a couple more questions right.
