My D got an invitation from Gallatin to the University Day Reception. I got so excited I bought plane tickets. Now I realize she has not actually been accepted.

From all the postings I read, it seemed like University Day invitation = admittance. But, it's going to be awful if we fly to NY only to later find out she did not get in.

Is anyone else in this situation; or, does anyone have any suggestions??? I already emailed and called the Admissions Office but have not yet heard back. Thanks.

Yes, it is quite presumptious of them to invite you for this without having an actual acceptance. I am in the same position, but I live in NYC and it is just a car ride for my family. I would call the NYU admissions and ask if indeed your daughter got in. According to her the letters have been mailed. They might tell you.

I was of the belief that if you got an invite to the Sat or Sun at the square it was a "sign of great things to come" It also said on the invite "for outstanding students entering the class of 2010". That makes it pretty dang clear that you're in. My son got his early last week.

I'm in the same situation as you. i also got the uday invite and plane tickets, but technically, i'm not accepted. plane tickets was a pretty big splurge for my mom and i...

Yes--we're in the same position. We live in California, and we really want to see the official acceptance letter before we buy our plane tickets to attend "University Day" on April 9. She was also contacted by the head of her prospective department by email (she responded with a couple of questions, and the prof wrote back immediately). We think this is all a good sign, but ...

If we don't receive the acceptance today, I'm going to call the Admissions Office on Monday morning to see if they'll confirm my daughter's acceptance. Not sure if they'll say anything over the phone, though.

Didn't get the acceptance letter today--although we live in a somewhat remote area in California, so I'm not surprised. We're buying our plane tix anyway to avoid the jump in fares that happens when you buy w/in 7 days of departure. Fingers crossed that the "Univ. Day" invite and the NYU emails asking her to stay interested in the school are a good sign!

Similar situation here - my d. is also in at Gallatin - but we got the package from NYU on Friday (west coast). I went ahead and booked the University Day tickets earlier, though --and I'm glad I did because I managed to get a pretty good round trip fare for my daughter.

Unfortunately, NYU also enclosed their "financial aid" package along with accepetance materials, so while I think my daughter will be attending their party, the school is pretty much out of the question at this point, unless we win the lottery or something. Fortunately my daughter is also accepted at another NY college that has a reception the same week and a reasonable approach to financial aid... so the plane tickets will not go to waste.

ahhahahaaha i was just going to say we got our plane tickets but i haven't gotten the acceptance... and i just realized my mom already beating me to posting! thanks mom... sloparent :)
