Planet Southern California

@blueskies2day is spot on. Maybe campus is “surrounded” by gangs but nobody is going to mistake a USC student for a gang member.

Don’t wear blue to marching band practice, because it’s the ucla color and they make you take laps for it. Don’t wear green the week we play notre dame.

Otherwise you can wear whatever you want.

You’ll be fine. Except there are strange things people in California say. “Yeah no”’means no. “No yeah” means yes.

California (not “Cali”) and LA in particular is full of people from all over the world. It’s not really a great place for pedestrians. I know kids at USC who don’t have cars; they use either Uber or Zipcar when they want to get around LA.

Thank you for all the help!

What are the fraternities like at USC?

@usctransfer10256 As stated above, if you live your life at USC within the DPS Zone and be cautious when venturing outside of that area, you will be fine. Over the past five years, I have heard absolutely nothing about gangs or gang culture… other than your inquiry.

As for fraternities, they seem to vary widely but offer enough of a range to be appealing to almost anyone interested in Greek life. I would simply urge you to choose wisely if you are aiming in that direction. Do your homework/research on each, meet as many members as possible and then choose where you feel that you best fit in.

Good Luck
