does anyone know how competitive sprint football is?

Very, at least compared to their competition. They regularly tend to clean house with their opponents.

I would like to do just intramurals my first year and try out for Sprint Football as a youngster...

I heard that Paintball is a competitive ECA, so I definitely want to try that. Does anyone know anything like how competitive it is, what type of guns are used, or what type of games are played?

i talked to my mid this weekend re: sprint football. he said it's very competative and they make lots of cuts. it's hard to get into as a plebe or youngster unless you have trained hard. some who are cut request to work out with the team with the hope of making the team next year.

GoinToUSNA08- My 3/c son is on VOST (Varsity Offshore Sailing Team) and is having the time of his life! Previous to USNA he had very little experience other than racing in a few beer-can races. They will teach you everything you need to know. Training began Spring of Plebe year and he was assigned to a 47-foot donated boat. During block 1 of summer he sailed on this same boat in the Annapolis-Newport race, Block Island races and various races on the Chesapeake. This Fall he sailed on the 44's. He just received his Spring/Summer assignment and will be assistant Navigator on Zaraffa which is the largest donated boat USNA has (I believe 65-ft). This summer they will race the same races as last year -plus Annapolis-Bermuda. The crews spend a lot of time together on and off the boat bonding. By the way- VOST competes against boats from other yacht clubs etc not against other colleges. Intercollegient sailing is with the smaller boats. This has been the perfect avenue for my son who spent 10 years swimming competitively and always longed for more of a team spirit/loyalty.

Oh, and I forgot to add- My daughter is just the opposite. She has received an appointment and is a recruited athlete for swimming. She has heard from 3 schools and 3 to go before she makes her decision. My son sent back his acceptance letter the day he received it.

Yes mam, I've heard nothing but great things about VOST. Talked to several midshipmen on it and the VOST Operations Officer when I went up for my CVW.

I'm really excited about it. And apparently, I have more sailing experience than most of the new VOST members each year, so that's a big plus.

I took some video of Zaraffa when I was up there as well. She's 66 feet. A beautiful boat. I can't wait to sail her.

Does anyone know much about the intramural program? I'm an athlete but not good enough to compete in division I and I was thinking that intramural sports would be a good way to get to know other mids.

I'm hopefully going to be playing Water Polo and be on the Swim Team. I can't wait.

I know a very good part of the brigade does intramurals. It's a pretty standard thing.

Dark_Dust119,

Good luck with Water Polo!!! My brother plays and Mike is the most amazing coach. I have a lot of friends on sports teams at the academy but polo is my favorite & I'm sure if you make it you'll love it. Hope to see you on the team!

I want to try to be on the combat arms team, but a midshipmen at NASS told me about a shooting team that also runs e-courses. Does anyone know anything about that?

Here is a link for the USNA combat pistol team
Combat Arms Home

Actually, after reading scubaguy17's post, I'm pretty sure the midshipmen was talking about the infantry skills team.

A mid told me that the CAT very difficult to get on to. It's a lot of real hardcore PT guys.

He said a lot of plebes try out and they only take a handful of them.

the CAT or the IST?

the CAT hershey

For VOST, does it help to have prior sailing experience, or can you come into it knowing little about sailing?
