My son has been accepted to the honors program and is planning on majoring in computer engineering. He wants to also take pre med courses to prepare him for the MCAT. We are from Oklahoma and are planning a visit/tour to Columbus. We have identified three things we want to accomplish while there. They are: (1) a general tour of the campus; (2) find out the details about the honors program; and (3) how does he accomplish the dual academic objective (engineer/pre med) at OSU?

My question is: does any one know a good contact at OSU to ask for information to start this journey?

Certain engineering majors accommodate a pre-med aganda better than others. Chemical, biomedical, and biological engineering come to mind. Their engineering requirements overlap with pre-med requirements better than other majors such as computer, electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering. Regardless of engineering specialty, you pretty much need to take a year of bio, chem, organic, physics, and math plus your engineering classes.

There are orientation sessions for pre-professional programs with an advisor so would think you could contact someone in that dept to help answer your questions. We found it very easy to email advisors and set up appts during our campus visit.

Thank you RMG and ddd. I showed my son the pre med listing and it is good to know the ease of e mail w/ an advisor. We are going to OSU in a couple of weeks.

Paul, call up Honors College. They were very helpful with my son’s visit back in October. Also I think my son got something recently about an Honors College orientation coming up. Where are you planning on staying?

itsv, we are visiting the honors open house on February 26. We are staying on campus at the Blackwell, I believe it is named. We will arrive Thurs evening and leave Saturday afternoon. My son and I are looking forward to Columbus.

Great hotel…very service oriented! Students sometimes eat there for their great Sunday brunch on their meal plan. Latest student food rage is Raising Cane’s chicken on high street…great restaurants at Short North south on high street for dinner…Marcella’s is wonderful! Make sure you hit the top floor of the library for the best view of campus.
