Let me first start off by saying I'm one of those students who, despite working hard and having a good GPA, is plagued by the SAT and standardized tests in general. I go to a top 100 nationwide public school in Maryland that is highly competitive. Below are the details:
GPA Unweighted: 3.89
Weighted: 4.48
Took AP Chemistry as a Junior and taking AP Psychology and Biology as a senior,
Varsity ice hockey assistant captain as a senior, member of National Honor Society (Science, English, Spanish), member of the Academy of Math, Technology, and Science, accumulated 330 community service hours.

Best without superscore:
Math: 590
Reading: 610
Writing: 710

(Now here's the really bad part):
SAT II:
Chemistry: 630
Math I: 590
US History(without taking class): 460

Now, the reason my SAT II's were so terrible was because I was not planning on taking them and had little to no preparation. I was not planning on applying to JHU until a friend recommended applying there early decision.

As a back-up I took the ACT in June with no preparation and received the following (still waiting on writing score):
English 28
Mathematics 28
Reading 27
Science 21 (completely bombed it :( )
Composite 26

Now, I figure I still have a shot to take the ACT next September which, if I do well, will allow me to not worry about my terrible SAT II's. If that does not work out, I can take the SAT II's again with preparation or the SAT I to hopefully boost that up as well. This is another conflict I require insight upon.

Thank you for reading and please let me know if you know of another school that fits my profile.

well top colleges love their grades and thats what youve got, even if the test scores arent fantastic youve got a decent chance. my cousin(this happened 17 years ago) go into northwestern with a 1300 on the sat but was 1st in his class at a regular public high school so because you go to a competitive school and youve got good grades so JHU is probably a high match and if its your dream school then just try to separate yourself from the crowd in your essays. If you can get the admissions officer to give you a nickname then youll get in

Is it a better idea to retake the SAT I or II’s in my position? Although, I seem to be better at the ACT which I can hopefully raise with some preparation. Is it a better idea to go that route?
