ok so basically I had a 28 ACT, 2050 SAT, and 3.77 GPA(upward trend) in high school and had a good amount of extracurriculars in high school, im at Michigan State right now, and I want to transfer to one of these five schools: Michigan(slight reach), Cornell(reach), USC(???), UNC(???), and Illinois(match) for Business(finance or accounting) and I will have 28 credits by the end of first semester in college(12 credits from AP's and im taking 16 my first semester), also im getting involved in college have a number of student organizations and predicting a 3.9/4.0 GPA for first semester, what are my chances? and what do I have to do to get to that point and reach my goal of getting to one of those schools? all responses are appreciated and don't worry about being blunt or harsh I can take criticism well

bump*

You cannot "predict" a first semester GPA. I'm sorry, but you can't; it's not high school anymore. Also, it's VERY difficult to transfer as a first-year student, while it's easiest to do it once you approach junior year. If I were you, I would build your college record while continuing to give Michigan State its fair chance, and then start thinking about applying to transfer once you know what you really have to work with for a record.

I'd have to agree with MHC.

Wow that's demoralizing thanks for your responses though I appreciate the feedback. I really genuinely like msu, but after being here for a month I feel like it's not a good fit for me as far as surroundings, I've been in East Lansing my entire life from elementary school to high school and really want to experience something new for my fours years in college and in order to do that I really need to transfer to somewhere else.

Hold up just yet. I've heard just the opposite - that it is easier to transfer into sophomore year since there are so few spots left for juniors.

In short, do your best and prepare the best application you can. There's little use in having other people estimate your chances

Well said by both above posters.

Enjoy your first term at MSU. I mean, really enjoy it.

If you feel you want to transfer, come December, that will be plenty of time. At that time, read the Transfer Admissions 101 sticky thread and go for it.

Meanwhile, the only things you need to know are: do well (your best) in all classes this term; get to know profs/TAs well enough to get good recs if needed.

You will surely have good transfer results if you choose your schools wisely, follow the above advice and continue to perform well academically as you have in the past.

mhc made some good points

lots of freshman come on here because they didn't get into their top schools and are looking to transfer...they all anticipate getting a 4.0...not impossible, but you have to realize its not hs anymore, professors dont just hand them out

are you really going to apply after one year? calm down a bit, immerse yourself in your college instead of trying to get out the first chance you get

if you can put in two years at mich state and get that 3.8-4.0, however, there is no reason at all you can't get into those schools

Plenty of students transfer after freshman year. That way, you have more time at your new, presumably better-fitting college, and it's easier to meet the new requirements and graduate on time.
The biggest factor by far in transfer admissions is GPA, so keep it up.

thanks for the responses and feedback, this is really helping me in making my decision
