Hello, all. D and I have finally picked through her list to figure out which schools are best done on campus and which at NYC Unifieds. She is a costume major, so no auditions, but does have to go through portfolio review of her work and get through an interview.
I have gotten most the Unified schools scheduled for Pearl Studios. Anyone have any idea where the Carnegie Mellon, Boston U, and Shenandoah appointments are located? It’s too late in the day to get in touch with their offices and I am trying to figure out how much time needs to be scheduled between them to allow for plenty of travel time if needed.
Also, did you have to call Baldwin Wallace directly to schedule? They only sent back a generic “we got your application” letter but no link to set up an account like the other schools. I know that their auditions for actors are largely full, but I have yet to find any tech schedules that have no available slots.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Carnegie was in Ripley Greer our year but can’t assume that’s always the case
I think you can safely expect any appointment to be within a few blocks of Pearl Studios, unless it’s an NYC school that might want candidates to come to their campus. Colleges know most families will be staying close to Pearl (New Yorker Hotel, etc.)
FYI, I was able to contact BU and CMU this morning. They are both at “Ripley Grier” BUT in two different Ripley locations in the city. CMU is at 520 8th Ave, just across the street from Pearl Studios. However, BU is at the Ripley Grier at 939 8th Ave, which is 20 BLOCKS AWAY from the other interviews. Just a heads up for those of you who are organizing interviews.
Some schools always end up at 8th Ave. It’s a pretty quick subway ride thankfully.
Yes-- easy subway ride. We used to live in NYC, so I know it well. Just wanted to post the info here for future reference. Would not want anyone to read the thread and mistakenly assume auditions would be nearby each other and not allow time for a commute. We’ve scheduled BU first thing in the morning to get it out of the way and not have to backtrack. Good luck scheduling, everyone!
UNCSA and Syracuse are at Ripley-Grier, but Mason Gross is at the Crowne Plaza Times Square and Ithaca is at NOLA Studios.
In my opinion, there was no benefit to auditioning on campus except to see the campus, which you can always spend money to do after accepted. I was 100% sure that it was perfectly smart to audition on campus for BU, Carnegie Mellon, UMich, Rutgers (we live in NJ, after all) and Syracuse U. Nope. Plenty of kids were accepted from off-campus auditions. Save your money and stress and do as much as possible at Unifieds.
Break a leg!!!
