Basically I wanted to transfer after 1 year of CC but I took 3 classes this summer and i got 1 C in a MDIA class and an A- in PSYC 1.

I'm a psychology major and i'm going to apply to USC this Fall with approximately 31 units (my cc is on quarter system).

I got a 1900 SAT in high school and a 3.4 overall gpa.

If I get all A's in my fall quarter classes, I'm going to end up with a 3.71. So is it worth applying?

Let me know! Thanks!

I am not clear if you are applying as a sophomore after 1 year of CC or as a junior after 2 years of CC. Your CC is on a quarter system and is the 31 units quarter or semester units? I am guessing you meant 31 semester units.

If you are applying with sophomore status after 1 year of CC or 1 year at any other 4 year college, I believe you have to have a Trojan Transfer Plan (TTP) agreement with the admissions office. The TTP is basically for high school applicants who were borderline for USC admittance as a freshman. They were rejected, but USC admissions liked them enough to offer them the TTP, which basically means you need to have a 3.6 gpa or above in your 1st year of CC or a 4 year college to be admitted as a sophomore. You’ll have to reapply during the Spring of your freshman year and the higher the gpa, the better your chances of being admitted as a sophomore. Consideration is also given to the difficulty/competitiveness of the school (i.e., CC versus a UC school) you are applying from. See some of the Trojan Transfer Plan posting in this forum.

If your 31 units are semester units (expected by the time you transfer), it appears you are applying for the Fall of 2015 which means you’ll have another year of classes at the CC. This means that you are applying as a junior transfer, which is easier to be admitted. Psychology does not appear to be an impacted major and I think a 3.71 gpa should get you in. I could be wrong. You should talk to a USC official in admissions, the psychology department or both.

@UCBUSCalum I will have 31 QUARTER units by the time I submit my application this year. I want to attend USC in Fall 2015, so I am applying this year. I want to attend USC my 2nd year (as a sophomore).

Does that make sense now?
and thanks for the information:)

31 quarter units plus 3 additional quarters (45 quarter units) this coming year will put you at sophomore status and 14 quarter units short of junior status (junior = 90 quarter units of course work; or 60 semester units for USC). Unless you have a TTP agreement, I believe you can only transfer as a junior. You should check with the USC admissions office or check the USC website for transfers.

@UCBUSCalum Yes I am aiming for sophomore status… do you think i can still get in with my C and A-?

I am not sure whether you can transfer as a sophomore unless, as I mentioned above, you were offered the TTP. You definitely can transfer as a junior. I am not sure what the acronym MDIA class stand for, but if the MDIA class is not in your major, I think the C will not hurt you as long as you get a lot of A’s and bring you gpa up to 3.7. 3.7 gpa gives you a good chance to be admitted as a junior. You need to check the USC website or call the admissions office about transferring as a sophomore. Good Luck!
