Hi guys, this is my first post so please try to help me... I am very confused about what I want to do with my professional life right now. I do not know wether to be a plastic surgeon or go into business? Since I researched and learned about plastic surgery, I knew I wanted to be a plastic surgeon because I love everything they do and I think it's a great career to be able to help others achieve what they do not have physically and because of that they're affected emotionally. The only thing that keeps me away from my dream is the length of the career, I think it's like 12 years :/ ( though Im still considering going that way).

I also like business because I like presenting and I had looked accounting but I don't know if that's right for me, I'm good with math and I like it but I just don't see myself being in an office every single day. In business, I would like to be a CEO so I don't know if this is the right path. I also don't know if I should go for plastic surgery. I read in another post that if you want to be filthy rich don't go into medicine?? ( is this true?, i don't think so) Im a college freshman.

Please guys, what can I do, what should I do? Give me some help in what to choose?? THANKSSSSS!!!

haha same here. well, i think business is more fun and faster to get a job you know? did you have economics or accounting yet? did you love that class? if yes, then you should go with business…its always interesting and innovative. plastic surgeon is a dangerous profession. one little mistake and u can mess people up. so yeah id say go with business if you like accouting and stuff

" I do not know wether to be a plastic surgeon or go into business? "

-You cannot “pursue” plastic surgery until you are accepted to such residency, which is almost comparable to saying that you deciding to “pursue” carrier of a rock star. Can you really do it?

thanks to all that replied… yeah currently I am taking micro and macroeconomics and I love it!!! For now Im concentrating in Business, maybe after getting some internships and more study I could go into Investment Banking? What do you guys think about that field? I’ve researched about it and it seems interesting!!!

NHOFF7349 yeah I know in my question I sounded way more excited about plastic surgery and it was because I truly admire what they do but even though I admire it, it is a very long and as Miami DAP stated, hard to get into. I lacked to provide some of my excitement for business :). Maybe one day, instead of being a surgeon I could buy a plastic surgery practice, you never know.

Did you research the fact that the average med student scored in the 85th percentile for the MCAT and then the average plastic surgeon intern scored in the 88th percentile on USMLE Step 1? Not saying you can’t do this, but as a college freshman, being a CEO or Plastic Surgeon are not simply choices one makes. They are the end stages of long roads paved with lots of challenges and require dedication to the fundamentals of the fields or else you will surely not make it there.

P.S. This is a long, long, long, long way aways for you, but getting into plastics “to help others achieve what they do not have physically” sounds like a thinly veiled attempt to say you’re goal is to do the most superficial and thus lucrative parts of plastics work. The kids I know who are interested in it always talk about cleft lips and burn victims which I’m also sure is a bit of bull, but at least if it’s true is a little more noble.
