I’m also 2014, and I don’t have very much experience with chancing. But from what I see, you’re a good applicant, though that may not mean very much applying to Stanford. Make sure your essays are good.

I myself have been planning on making an “All-inclusive” chance-me thread in the future. Where I offer to PM my essays in addition to my stats. If you’ve finished your essays, why not PM them to the more seasoned CCers who offer a response, so that they can make a better prediction?

sounds good, the thing is, my essays are being proofread by 4-5 stanford undergraduates.
all from the class of 2013.
they all are like me, with pretty poor SAT scores, but other qualities.
im kind of banking on the fact that Stanford reads into your application, looks at all areas of it. many 2400’s and 2300 scores have been flat out rejected, so that makes me a feel a wee bit better.
what are you stats?

Here’s a light version of my stats.
Primary Interest: Engineering
SAT: 760M/770W/720CR=2250; I still have to retake.
SATII: 780 Bio/800 Chem/800 Phys/800 Math II
GPA: U: No idea, W: 4.78-ish , ranked 7/543 as a junior, didn’t get senior rankings yet.
Courses: 8 APs, 7 of them are math/science(all 5’s), 1 of them English(3). I plan on taking 2 more AP tests senior year.
EC: Mostly science competitions. I’m ranked nationally in Chemistry Olympiad, pretty high statewide (NJ) in a bunch of other physics/chemistry competitions. Treasurer for the Italian club.

In any case, I think my numbers are really strong. I guess it helps, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I got rejected unless I get my personality across really well.

This chancing stuff is silly, especially for Stanford. specifically because they read into all parts of your application so much. All you can really do on these “chance me” things is say what you think about the person’s numerical stats. Then you have to trust that they have “good essays and strong letters of rec” when that may not at all be the case.

bottom line is that the “chance me” stuff is silly/probably does more harm than good
