Hey everyone, I'm an incoming freshmen, and I do play the electric guitar a lot, so I was wondering if I could get some insight of how I should practice guitar without being too big of a nuisance to others. I can understand wearing headphones, but where do people usually practice instruments with amps? I understand that there are some music practice rooms. Am I allowed to use those for the electric guitar?

Thanks!

You’re allowed to use any instrument in the music rooms, I believe. My friend plays his electric guitar a couple doors down from me, and he uses his amps sometimes, but just keeps them at a relatively low sound level. Considering there are other people on my floor (myself included) who blast music quite loudly and often, his guitar playing doesn’t bother anyone, as long as it’s not past quiet hours (typically 11 PM). People tend to understand that if you want peace and quiet, you go somewhere other than the dorms. Though, it does to some degree depend on what dorm you’re in, but my guess is that most of the freshman dorms are similar when it comes to this.

The music practice rooms are mainly for those with brass instruments, as it’s kind of impossible to play those at a low volume, and the sound from them really does emanate obnoxiously through the walls.
