Plaza housing question

I visited UCLA a few weeks ago and got to see a residence hall and a plaza. My parents decided that plaza housing was a much better deal (since you get a lot of luxuries for just a couple thousand dollars). Anyways, my question is, which plaza building (i.e. De Neve) is the best and why?

i'm partial to rieber vista and terrace. plaza style rooms, but its one big building with long hallways like res halls are. de neve is broken up in to several buildings, and sunset village is REALLY broken up. sunset is broken up into groups of buildings which is further broken up into sections.

hedrick summit is the same as vista and terrace, but it's just farther away.

Are Plazas really that much less social than the Halls? I can understand why De Neve might be. I visited De Neve and noticed how broken up it is. But Rieber and the others that are long hallways..are they that much more quiet/anti-social? And would that make De Neve the least social of all the Plazas?

i believe sunset is the least social. generally speaking plazas are all less social than res halls. but it really depends on the people on your floor. if you have a lot of people persons (people people?) on your floor and if a lot of people leave their doors open and stuff, then it will be social. if your floor is full of people that never leave their room, then its going to be quiet.

Those new buildings defeat the purpose of plaza. Same with De Neve, but less so. Sunset Village is the way to go, especially Canyon Point. It's nice and serene with excellent landscaping. It feels like a real house... well like condos or apartments or something except you only get one room. The low "population density" is a unique characteristic. No elevators to wait for or long flights of stairs...

My take on it is that if you want social time, all you have to do is just leave the area. There are plenty of places to do that sort of thing. However, finding a nice quiet spot that you can call your own is more difficult. I think that one would be more inclined to leave at night to do something fun rather than trying to look for a lounge or a couch at the library.

I'm actual partial to De Neve but that's b/c I live here. Anyway, it doesn't make much difference to which plaza is better for the first years because you guys don't actually get to pick buildings - which kinda bites in my opinion.

Anyway, my floor is actually very social. There's always doors open and people wandering around in the evenings. But like VTECaddict said, it really does depend on who's living on the floor with you.

I visited De Neve during my res hall/plaza tour; the students loved it there and they seemed to be pretty social. De Neve has my vote ;P

ucapplicant,

I lived in Delta for a little under a year (two quarters and a summer.) It was probably the quietest dorm I had. But man, it's hard to meet people.

Still, Puzzles proximity? SWEET.

UCLAri! You just reminded me! During our floor gov mtg last night they said Puzzles was closing! I was and still am shocked...

Oh, Puzzles is closing? I heard that Crossroads was closing?

I live in Delta Terrace right now...and at least in my particular house, it is not at all quiet (I have very noisy upstairs neighbors...however it is still much quieter than in the halls)...and at the same time, it is very antisocial. I haven't even met (or seen, for that matter) at least half of the people in my house, and not for a lack of trying. Several people here have removed their names from their doors, and probably never see daylight. Sure, you can go elsewhere to meet people, but I personally feel that you should be able to at least meet the people you live with. So, if you get stuck in DT...I'm sorry.

And yes, Puzzles is closing...though OCHC is trying to fight it. Crossroads is not closing, but they are changing it (since the new eatery, Rendevous, will be half-Mexican).

puzzles is closing? omg!

Well, I guess it'll be ok as long as a new one will take its place. Puzzles is unsanitary looking. Isn't there some facebook group about its practices?

I'm actually not that sad about Puzzles going away b/c it did serve a lot of greesy food. I'm more concerned with the fact that Crossroads' menu is changing. :(

What's Crossroad going to turn into?

i just hope Rendevous has hours similar to Bruin Cafe. I hate how Puzzles is only breakfast and late night.

Word has it that Crossroads is going to have Asian food instead of Mexican food but I'm not entirely sure about that.

How much more expensive are plazas than residential halls again? Was it around 2k?

I think the difference in price is just a little over $1,100.

yes, around 2k
