I am a highschool graduate looking for an education in the states. Since a young age it has been a big dream of mine to attend a division 1 school. Sports are my life... and i would indulge in the opportunity to be at a large school were sports are front and center. My QUESTION is i am looking to apply for Sports Administration/Management but i need to find a school that is under $20,000 or around and offers scholarships to international students. Help would be much appreciated!!!

p.s preferably i wish not to write my sat

The cost of attending University of South Carolina as an out of state student (which you would be as an international student) is in the $20Ks someplace. I don’t believe, however, that they award financial aid to international students. And even IF they do, it would only be to the tippy top candidates for admission. Without knowing your SAT scores it is IMPOSSIBLE to suggest schools where YOU might get merit scholarships.

U of South Carolina has an outstanding Sports Management Program…one of the top in the country.

I am confused…are you saying the school needs to cost UNDER $20K per year and you will need aid on top of that? If so, I think you are going to have a LOT of difficulty finding a college in the United States that will cost you that amount. Even a community college will be costly as you will have to factor in housing/food/utilities/travel costs in addition to the costs of tuition. And you will be paying the non-resident tuitions at the community college.

Sports4life, most 4-year US colleges require either SAT or ACT test scores for admissions. There are some that are “SAT optional” - you can google for that list - but many of them still require test scores for merit scholarships.

Sportsforlife…

Are you saying that your budget is $20k TOTAL…for tuition, room, board, books, etc?

If so, that will be a problem for an int’l who will have to pay OOS costs at a public.

As Thumper mentioned, you can’t just consider tuition…you have to consider all costs…room, board, books, transportation, personal expenses.

For an OOS student, South Carolina will cost about $35k PLUS

Out-of-state tuition and fees: $25,362
Room and board: $7,170
Books and supplies: $900
Estimated personal expenses: $2,420
Transportation expense: $1,455

I don’t know of any “big sports Div I” schools that would cost an int’l only $20k per year. And, since you won’t post your SAT, it sounds like your scores are too low for the schools that give merit to int’ls. Schools that give merit typically want high test scores as well as high GPAs.

I’d suggest doing 2 years of college if your home country and then transferring to a US college for the last 2 years. That way you can save your money, and also perfect your English before you take difficult upper level classes. Many Americans are doing that - attending 2 years at a local college and then transferring to a larger more expensive university.

Carefully check out the transfer policies for the colleges you want to attend, as well as whether each college offers any financial aid for international students. Some do, but most don’t.

The cheapest large universities for out of state residents that I know of in the northeast US are campuses of the State University of New York - including at Buffalo, Albany and Binghampton. You have to like cold weather and snow. Also, because of state budget problems, they may not continue to be reasonably priced in the future. There is also a large campus at Stony Brook on Long Island.

You need to read through everything at [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.info/) Then you need to make an appointment with one of the counselors at the advising center closest to where you live. [EducationUSA - Find an Advising Center](http://www.educationusa.info/centers.php) The counselors can help you find a good place to study, and they can tell you which universities have given scholarships to students like you from your country. They really are the experts.

Good luck!
