If a top 1% college won’t do… they’re being unreasonable and you may be better off looking for automatic scholarships. UAlabama’s scholarship is automatic, full tuition, honors program, honors dorms, and $2,500 if you’re in the college of engineering.

Otherwise:

A full ride scholarship is preferable over a full tuition scholarship, since a full tuition scholarship would likely still require some parental financial support for room and board, while a full ride would have at most minimal misc. costs that you can easily cover from a federal direct loan or some work earnings – i.e. no dependence on parental money.

RYLA is a leadership program sponsored by local businessman. Every year, the business leaders choose 6 out of all juniors to go to Colorado to participate in a leadership programs, you do things like team0building skills and other stuff.

If OP is a NMF, there are a lot of full rides out there.

okay, that’s good then. See where you can go from there. Can you get an internship from it, for instance? Make friends that will help you start an activity, a club, a program… Even if it’s just to hang out and do things together it can be something that helps set you apart.
note: You’ll need to explain that award (and put it in your GC’s bullet point list, with details.)

@ucbalumnus Thanks for you patient and lots of help! I feel much better after talking with you.

@MYOS1634 I dont think i will get any interns from RYLA, but i already know what internships i will be doing summer and next year (I will be either working in a mall as a manager and doing research with the professor whom i have worked with during summer, and i will work in a research company next school year) I am sure i will make a lot of new friends. Thanks for reminding me that i need to clarify the award

@BrownParent Thank you for being so sympathetic! If i have children one day, i would not care much if they were decent in personality and able to make a living on their own.

Are you a National Merit Finalist (or do you expect to be one)? If you are, there are many full-rides available.

It’s a pretty high bar to be NMF in CA

No I am not, I took PSAT in my freshman after I just came from China, I did not understand those vocab. I did decently in my sophomore year, but I did not get any. I had a car accident, so I missed the exam.
@SurvivorFan

Going to take act tmr, good luck to myself lol.

I’m sorry to hear about the car accident. I assume it happened junior year?
Good luck for tomorrow. Don’t stress out. Remember, you can still take it in June, in September, and even once more if need be! Tomorrow will establish your baseline. :)

I want to take an organic course next year at a local community college, but I am afraid that UCs (UCB, UCR, UCI, etc) will automatically place me into higher level courses if I finish that, and i will be screwed. Is it possible for UC to allow me to “repeat” a semester of organic chemistry? Same issue with Multivariable calculus.
