Please advise on CC to 4-year university through articulation agreement/guarantee transfer agreement

Hey everyone,

I am 23 years old from the US, and due to health issues, I was not able to go to college after high-school. The gap has been 5 years. Now, I need to back to school, but I am extremely stressed out because I don’t know where to start. In my previous post, I wanted to know the best possible options given my circumstance. The goal is for me to end up being in the best possible college (rank/strength wise) given my circumstance. I want to major in finance or along the lines of finance in a strong undergraduate business school.

From my previous post and subsequent research, I have decided that the best option for me is to go to a community college and transfer into a 4-year university through a articulation agreement or guarantee transfer agreement.

The challenge is finding the best school schools that have articulation agreements with CC. As mentioned, I want to major in finance or along the lines of finance in a strong business school. What is your advice, how do I go about finding this information, should I get a private academic consultant?

Notes:

Location: So, I am traveling outside the United States, so I don’t really have a place. One of my parents lives in the US and another lives outside the country. So, for me location is not a constraint, and I am open to relocating, living, and studying anywhere in the United States.

Finances: I do not have any financial constraints, I have the capability to afford the most expensive tuition. And, I do not need to work, and I do not have a family or other constraints.

Interest: Ideally, I would like to be in business school and major in business related verticals such as finance, applied economics, international business, and etc. I am also interested in colleges that have options to obtain a double major or multiple minor.

I am stressed out and anxious about this. And, I desperately need help. You all have no idea how much I appreciate you reading this. I look forward to hearing from all of you.

Sincerely,

Jack

Start with where on parent lives, in what ever state that is, do you file a US tax form if so what state do you reside in for tax purposes? Contact that state flagship and see what their rules are for CC transfer.

That’s the best advice you’re going to get, and if the state is say CA, you can on the California sub-forum and ask the moderators (gumbymom, ucb) there who would know more.

Where would you like to live? Where can you find a strong medical team to help keep your health on track? Start with the answers to those two questions.

Almost every public university has some kind of articulation agreement with the CCs in that state. If you are certain about your focus on Finance, then identify the public universities with the strongest Finance programs, and work your way backward to find which CCs in that particular state have articulation agreements for the Finance major and/or related majors such as Economics and Business.

There are different kinds of articulation and guaranteed transfer agreements. Some will guarantee admission to the university, and guarantee application of CC credits to cover the university’s Gen Ed requirements, without guaranteeing admission to any one specific major. In that case, the student needs to also be accepted separately into the major. Other agreements guarantee admission directly into the specific major provided the student meets the requirements of the articulation agreement. Often a given CC/university combination will have both kinds of agreements so that while anyone could easily transfer in, only specific majors have guaranteed admission to the major.
