<p>This was my immediate thought, too. </p>
<p>I cannot imagine a decent LAC, much less a good one, eliminating the Chemistry and Biology departments and bringing in adjuncts from a CC. Our local state school, on the other hand, announced a couple of years ago that they were doing away with the Physics major, amongst others. Apparently the enrollment was too low.</p>
<p>It definitely sounds as if a transfer is in order. But I would take other courses at the LAC and apply to transfer to other colleges for the fall, or even the summer semester if it is available. I don’t see one semester at a LAC and one semester at a CC as an attractive resume for a transfer to a good school. Staying would enable your S to put together a strong application with good recommendations.</p>
