Please advise...

I have a few questions concerning CCC.

I do not understand how TAG/TAP/IGTEC work.

What will make you a competitive transfer applicant for a engineering/business/econ major at ucla/ucsd/ucb/ucd? What do you have to do at the CC?

Do Extracurricular activities matter at this point?

Does it matter which community college you go to? Are there better cc's or all they all viewed in the same way?

Thanks.

At my school, TAP was basically an "honors project" in at least 18 units worth of classes. If you did the project in a 3 unit class and a 4 unit class, you'd have 7 of your 18 TAP units done. I saw the projects range from reading a book, answering 10 pages of questions about it, and meeting with the instructor for a discussion...to a 20 minute power point...to a 2 page movie review (lol?).

To be competitive for any and all majors you need to maintain a good GPA (I'd shoot for 3.75 or higher), complete ALL of your pre-reqs (Welcome to ASSIST ftw), have good extra curriculars/work experience (not necessarily in a field related to your major, however for engineering/bio/chem this would be helpful), and last but certainly not least you need to write a great admissions essay which you have run past multiple people (professors you respect, etc) to get their take on it. For me, I was able to take bits and pieces from multiple people and ended up with something I was really happy with.

Overall it does not matter which community college you go to. Most are more or less created equal, but I do think there are some in the far reaches of the state that really lack in class selection. In that case I would move to a higher population area to do my CC (Bay Area, LA County, Orange County, San Diego).

Good luck
