I hope to eventually get a job as a consultant at Mckinsey, Bain, Boston Consulting Etc. I know that they take a fair amount of their college recruits from the University of Virginia. Thats my number 1 pick for college but I screwed around a bit in High School and I might not be able to get in. If i went to NOVA for a 2 years then transfered how much of a negative impact would that make on my chances. WOuld it be worth an extra 20,000 thousand to go to a school like University of Michigan where they still recruit?

Confused by your post – are you suggesting that if you can’t get into UVA you CAN get into U of Mich. out of state? How much “screwing around” did you do?

I have like a 3.9 and I am prettry sure I’ll get over 2200 on my SAT. I think i can get in but you never know. Its a hypothetical situation where i get into UNiversity of MIchigan but not UVA which isn’t an impossibility.

Actually, it pretty much is. UVA’s standards aren’t the same as Michigan’s. But based on a 3.9 (if it’s unweighted) and a 2200 SAT I wouldn’t think getting into either school will be a big problem. Unless you mean by “screwing around” you broke the law or something.

I always heard it was harder to get into UVA.

MF - Are you referring to admission to McIntire (UVA) vs. Ross (UMich)? McIntire accepted 311 from about 521 students last year with a mean GPA of 3.62 and SAT of 1380. Ross accepted 250 of about 1200 applicants (for pre-admit) with an average GPA of 3.8, 1443 SAT and 32 ACT.
Both are top ranked business schools.
I would not assume that it’s easier to get into Ross given those statistics, since the applicant pool is more than double UVAs.
I would assume that given your goal, attending University of Michigan would be worth the extra money IF you’d pay it for Wharton or Notre Dame’s program.
Whether or not out-of-state or private school tuition is “worth” it depends on what you plan to do with yourself and how meaningful the quality of the program is to you personally.
Best wishes,
K

Yes those are the two schools, but I am refering to my undergradute degree.

So was I, as a bba.

mfeneley, you’ll get into UVA.
