Hi, I have a quick question. I know Stanford doesn't look at freshman year grades, and they care more about the unweighted gpa than the weighted.

I wanted to know if they include the freshman grades in the calculation of the total unweighted gpa. And do they include senior year also? Please get back to me on this! Thanks!

Yeah, Stanford doesn't look at freshman year when calculating GPA, I think they might also toss out "non-academic" subjects, but I'm not sure on that (i.e., gym)...might want to check the admissions website if you want to know more. Senior year, I guess it depends on whether or not a) your school is on a trimester/semester/quarter system and b) you're applying SCEA or RD. For example, my school's on a semester system w/the first semester ending in January, so obviously my final semester grades won't be on my SCEA app.

Thanks. I wasn't sure about how the process went and I was going nuts. I heard five different things from everybody. I think I need to calm down a little. THis whole college app thing is messing with my mind! lol. Thanks again. =)

they basically use your 10th and 11th grades (and 1st semester grades of senior year if you are RD) and make up their own GPA. they do this by taking out useless courses (gym, home ec...) and then calculate their own unweighted GPA. so basically the GPA your school gives is probably not going to be the one Stanford judges you by. it may be lower, it may be higher.
