Please be honest and tell me what you think.

I'll be graduating from a CC in Florida with my AA in the spring of 2007. I'd be looking to transfer for the fall. I'm thinking anthropology major and there aren't that many courses to choose from pertaining to that at the CC. I've taken the english and quite a bit of math. I'm holding off on taking science courses though because if I want to go to med school then I'll need to take those at a four year school. My GPA is about a 3.8 (nothing great but not bad) EC's are member of PTK, I work, volunteer, and helped start up an animal rescue (pretty generic). What do you think could I get in?

the question shouldn't be what /we/ think you could get into - it should be where you most want to get in. a good start may be to research colleges that are strong in your area of interest - which you may or may not have already done. where were you looking at, athlete522?

Sorry I do have a list of schools. I posted this in the University of Florida room first and just forgot to mention the schools here. Sorry, here's the list...
UNC-CH-dream school
U of Florida
U of Arizona
NC State
and for safeties University of South Florida and East Carolina University

...bump...

i'd say shoot for you dream school - UNC has has a 36% acceptance rate - that's slightly over a third! you sound motivated, so in addition to your essays, if you can network right and get nice recommendations, you'll have a good chance in being in that third. however, i also noticed that they accepted 83.2% of students in-state, whereas the acceptance rate for out-of-state students was only 16.8%. hmm...

that led me to look at florida next - their standards (speaking strictly from a test-score viewpoint) were actually more stringent than your dream school! they also listed many alumni outstanding in one particular area - so if you have a certain quirky talent that can eventually be used as a marketing tool, be sure to emphasize that in your application. u of f has a beefy athletic program; again, something to consider if you are a notable athlete.

if you happen to get rejected from your dream school, university of arizona is a very good backup... their strong program in anthropology is a nod in your favor; consider looking into u of a more closely if you haven't already. i don't think you'll have a problem with being admitted there.

same with nc state (nice library!), but once again... there is a lot more competition amongst people not native to north carolina. as a whole, state colleges don't offer a lot of diversity - so if you're a minority looking for a niche, you might not find that.

i trust you on your safties.

OOS or IS doesn't matter to UNC if you're transferring. That should help me out.

Anybody else? Please.....
