Please Chance a Former Slacker!

Hi guys,
I used to be a huge slacker. I didn't do homework , never studied for tests, did nothing after school...It was a disaster. Then about halfway through my sophomore year I realized that what I was doing was going to hurt me in the long run. From that point on I never recieved below a B. However, the damage had alraedy done,as my freshman year GPA was pretty low and my sophomore year GPA was just ok. Junior year I had a huge improvement and really did as well as I know I can. This year I'm doing well so far as well.

So here are my stats, and tell me if i'm going to get in or not make it to the colleges on my list

Freshman year: 2.78 GPA
Sophomore Year: 3.14 GPA (Honors English)
Junior Year: 3.72 GPA (AP Gov, Honors English, History, Business classes.)

Cumulative GPA: 3.23

School doesn't rank.

I go to a top 10 school in NJ, and we typically do very well at most colleges (Northern Highlands)

took SAT's Twice:
First time: 610 Math, 620 Reading, 640 Writing 1870 total.
Second time: 610 Math , 620 Reading, 680 writing, 1910 total.
taking a third time this weekend, but haven't studied a whole lot

schools on my list:

University of Maryland-College Park
Northeastern University
George Washington University
University of Miami
University of Connecticut
Ohio State University
University of Michigan
New York University
Lehigh University

So can I overcome my bad freshman year with my huge upward trend?

I don’t know much about the schools on your list, but I can assure you that you’re not alone. I had 2.87, 3.65, 4.11, and this year hopefully 4.5. I hope upward trend counts for something, and I think it plays more of a role if discussed via essay/interview, but I’m not totally sure where it puts you in regards to those colleges

I don’t know how to edit my post but im also applying to UDel.

please help!

I looked at Penn State U Park; it’s my last backup. It’s not hugely competitive or anything. You’ll probably be fine.

Especially if you chance me baaack. I want to go to Cornell.

My application for PSU is already sent. I’d be less nervous if I didn’t apply for the Smeal Business college. I’d be ecstatic if I got in.

You have a good upward trend which means that you’ve recognized your error and you’ve tried your best to fix it.

bump! Anyone have any predictions where I will and won’t get in?
I’m applying early action wherever it’s offered, so that’s Michigan, Maryland, Miami, Uconn, Northeastern and Delaware. I’ve already applied to penn state. I took the SATs today, so those are possibly going up as well.

You’re absolutely fine for UConn and Maryland. Very likely for Northeastern.
Sorry, I dont know about the rest of the colleges.

Chance me back?

This is so funny, I go to Ramsey!!

I think you can get into Syracuse, UConn, Penn State, UDel, and Ohio and possibly UMD. The rest are reaches but you never know. My top choice is Northeastern, so maybe I’ll see ya there next year lol

I’m sorry - I don’t know about those colleges, but Ohio State has rolling admissions, so you should apply soon.

Oh wow, thanks. I didn’t realize OSU was rolling. I’ll try to get that done ASAP!

UMD is definitely a reach, especially since you’re from NJ. Neither your GPA nor SAT scores are up to par for Smith. The average weighted GPA is 4.0 and SAT’s are between 1250-1400. Since you’re from NJ and applying for Smith, your stats would have to be quite a bit higher.
GW and UMich are also high reaches.

bump

.

Penn State has a bubble chart and you would fall under the branch campus category. However, with the upward trend you have a good shot!
