I am currently a junior in high school and I know I want to go into business. Emory Univ. (Goizueta) is my 1st choice to apply. Here is my stat:
-I currently have a 4.18 weighted GPA (my school does not give unweighted GPA. I am guessing ~ 3.7, As & Bs)
-I am ranked top 10.7% of my class (~1400 students) in a very competitive public high school.
-I have taken almost all honors classes, 3 APs in sophomore year, 6 APs in junior and more APs in senior year.
-I have gotten a 33 on my ACT and will be taking it again.
-On SAT I got 1420 for M+C (2030 overall, will not submit). I have not taken any SAT II test yet.
ECs: I am in National Honors Society (3 years), a Dance Club member (2 years), 3 years Art class including Art 3D AP (I will make a portfolio for my 3D art work this year). I’ve played club soccer for 7 years with year-around intensive training, games and tournaments (my team is D1 team in the most competitive league of the area and is currently North State Rank #4, Region Rank #21, and National Rank #93). I have some leadership roles for few local youth programs and had enrich community service volunteer experience, etc.
I am an Asian male. I’d like to know if I have the best chance at Emory Univ. (Goizueta) or if it’s a reach/match college for me. Please help to provide your advices.
Thank you for your time and please comment!
90% chance of getting in everything is really good. Other 10% is just random bad luck
radius34: Thanks for your reply.
Can you please tell me more why you think I have 90% chance of getting in? I think my GPA or Ranking may not be good enough (my high school is really competitive). Thanks.
Well as long as you have solid recommendations and essay I’d say you have a 85-90% chance of getting in which is as great of a chance there is among applicants.
@sanghyump2004: Thanks for your comments. Very good suggestions.
One more question: Will the students be accepted to Emory Goizueta school at the freshmen year?
@elcollege No, all freshmen start from either Emory College or Oxford College. They can apply to Goizueta School (BBA) during their sophomore year and start attending Goizueta during junior year
@sanghyunp2004 Thanks. I visited Emory College and Oxford College last year. I do like Emory College but Oxford College seems too small.
When I apply Emory, should I apply both or just apply Emory College?
@elcollege Apply to both since they have different admissions and the only difference is checking a box while you do your common application. It won’t have a impact in your admissions if you apply to both or one.
pretty sure you’ll get in… I kinda want to go to Emory too (junior, asian female) and looked up a bunch of threads on CC about the stats of people admitted to Emory and you’re at or even above those stats.
Hopefully we’ll both get in, and if so see you in a year or so haha
Please stop saying that you know that they’ll get in. As much as we hope that is the case, we have no way of knowing and there chances certainly are not 90%. One cycle Emory released an admissions profile booklet (2013) with actual stats/brackets and the bracket for those like the OP say like 80% at best because this past cycle seems much less stats sensitive as the stats of the admitted class was the same as last year, but there were more applicants. That by default suggests that less high stats applicants got in than previous years. If high stats applicants were heavily favored/more than with the smaller app. pools, then the stats would have increased a bit (which is how most selective schools operate, they just use app. increases to cherrypick higher scorers…which does not always equate to better students).
Thanks to all your valuable comments.
I understand that all the top colleges are not easy to get in. What else I need to do to increase my chance?
Thanks again.
