Please chance a reach applicant

Hello! I am in love with Lehigh ,but I also realize my stats are not good at all. I will be applying EDI. I have visited the school once already and plan on going for an interview also. Please be brutally honest here.

First of all, just by applying ED1 you are significantly helping yourself. It’s great to show such dedication to a school and such motivation to have everything done by November. This will certainly help you.

Your GPA is on the low side. However, UW isn’t as important as weighted. If you took all the most challenging courses possible, you will actually be okay. So, my advise to you is to take many APs, IBs, or honors courses this year to show passion for learning and the ability to push yourself. Lehigh cares more about the rigor than the grade.

Your SAT is a little low low. You should retake it at least one more time, aiming for a 650 on math if possible. Since it is so objective, there’s little wiggle room when it comes to SAT. You either have the score or you don’t. Even still, a 1190 / 1600 isn’t an “end-all” as you can still impress the adcoms with other aspects of your academia.

Do you have any leadership positions in those clubs? The service trip isn’t going to help as much as you probably thought it would when you were doing it, but assuming your a president, a dedicated member, or even someone who organized a fundraiser, you will be okay.

Try to continue to show interests, refine those essays, visit, interview, email your admissions director with genuine questions if you have them, and keep trying your hardest senior year. It’s important to have a rigorous senior year schedule.

Overall, I would agree with you - Lehigh is a reach. However, reaches are called reaches for a reason - you just have to try a little harder to get them, it’s not impossible!

Best of luck! Hopefully we will be the class of 2017!

Best regards,

 • Mike
