please chance a senior for CIT :D

ACT: 31 (35 Math 32 English)
PSAT: 211 (national merit commended scholar)
SAT: 1900 (760 math) probably not going to send
SAT Subject Tests: 750 Math I 730 Math II, taking chemistry later this fall

class rank: 50/800

3.7 unweighted gpa, our school does some weird weighted gpa scale

AP classes: World History (2), English Lang (2), Calculus AB (5), Chem (4), Psych (didn't take AP Test) and I'm signed up for AP Physics C (both of them), AP Bio, AP English Lit, and AP Calculus BC for senior year

have taken dual credit US History A and B and will be taking dual credit Macroeconomics next year

125 community service hours
tutored as a job for 2 hours per week all of junior year

ECs: member of marching band 9-12, will most likely continue in college and named student leader for senior year and among best marchers for both junior and senior year season

member of math and science team 10-12

thanks for the chances!

… anyone at all?

are you a URM?
Because your stats look a little bit weak…

im asian :/

Yeah, dude, it’s not happening with those stats. Sorry to break it to you.

What can you do to fix this? Well, it’s hard since there are only so many test dates to retake…
Math Subject Test should ideally be an 800 for CIT, SAT should be either 2100+ or ACT should be higher. Your GPA is OK but not great. You AP scores are not good to say the least, so don’t send scores in.

Do you have any leadership roles?

This is actually pretty hard since you desperately need something to set you apart.

probably OK stats,
The issue is that so few qualified are accepted.
Wait until you are accepted before fantasizing.

LongPrime, so you’re saying that you think I have at least a decent shot? do you know if CMU is rolling admissions or not? aka, if i turn in my RD app ASAP, i have a higher chance of getting accepted versus someone that applies in like december?

You application will NOT be considered - it will be incomplete without the two REQUIRED subject tests.

It’s very important for any school to read instructions. Math 1 and Math IIC do NOT fulfill the requirements for any school asking for TWO subject tests.

CMU request math PLUS chem or physics.

Don’t submit an incomplete application-you’ll get dinged before you get a chance to take Chem.

Your GPA is “average” and you don’t have anything particularly interesting to set you apart for other applicants. See previous threads-- and the “chance me” thread-- CMU looks for a broad range of students with unique and diverse interests. Sorry-- knowing that’s probably not what you wanted to hear.

I don’t do “chances”.

I said, “probably OK stats”

oh haha sorry mom2012and14, forgot to mention im taking the sat II in chem sometime this fall!

But if you ED I don’t think your scores for Chem SAT II will be available yet so you’ll have to do RD.

i am doing RD, i hate the whole concept of ED. being legally bounded to attend a university, thats nonsense. they shouldn’t allow someone who is not even/is barely an adult be in such a position!

Oct test is ok for ED.
for RD, they suggest “November” test.
That’s what I heard directly from admission office.

CMU admission is a little bit different than other schools. EDI, ED II and RD (which you can apply more than one schools). You need to read thru their admission website to get a clear idea about the application process.

They don’t do rolling admission. so, no difference if you send the material earlier.

If you really like the school, of course you should apply.

Good luck !

thanks flyinglandbird!

I wish you the best of luck!
I’m applying to CIT as well.

FYI, i have a 2130 SAT, 3.9 UW, 790 MathIIC and 700 Chem
Mine seems a bit higher than yours but who knows!
I really hope i get in!
