Please chance an optimistic girl for her dream school :]

Hi! First of all, I want to thank you for taking the time to read this and chance me. I am a rising senior at a competitive, nationally-recognized private school on the East Coast. I know that my GPA is the weakest part of my application, but I'm hoping that my strengths will help me a bit. I really love Yale and I'm planning on applying SCEA.

UW GPA: 3.6 [9th: 3.4, 10th: 3.5, 11th: 4.0, 12th: 4.0!]
*Note that I attended a very poorly-ranked public school for my first 2 years of high school. In addition, I was dealing with serious familial and social problems which negatively affected my health and in turn, my academics.

My school does not weight or rank, but I am estimated to be #11 out of 73 students. The highest UW cumulative GPA at my school on a 100-point scale is a 94.

SAT I: 2310 M:710 CR:800 W:800

Awards:

You’re looking solid. Maybe get that GPA up more?
What’s your nationality?

Alwaysgraceful: If the 1st semester or so of my senior year counts, my GPA will be very close to a 3.7. Oh, and I’m half North African, half Russian.

Nikkor: Thanks a lot. I’ll take a look.

Anyone else… please? Is it worth applying?

North African! that’s URM, isn’t it?
and I guess your GPA won’t pull you down so much if there’s an upward trend in your grades.
You should definitely apply, you have a chance.

I heard that North African counts as Middle Eastern which would actually qualify me as an ORM… But I’m not sure.

Yeah, I’m hoping that my upward trend will help me. I think that getting a 4.0 at a competitive private school shows my true academic capabilties.

Thanks!

North African’s definitely considered Middle Eastern (unfortunately for you).

But still, even if youre ORM, your app looks pretty solid and you are very focused (which HYPS and others seem to like, sometimes). Now you’ve just got to write good essays and have good recs.

Thank you for your thoughts… I will definitely have good recs and I should have great essays.

Haha, Raffiki, I have an uncle in Montreal named Rafik who I’ve called Raffiki since I was little :]
