Unless you love cold weather, I’d say Pomona sounds perfect for you. The Claremont Consortium likes to brag that their students can ski/snowboard and surf/windsurf in the same day. Claremont itself is sort of suburban, but the San Gabriels are nearby, with a wealth of hiking opportunities. Pomona is a very brainy place, and the consortium offers opportunities to mingle with various freaks, geeks, and buttoned-down types.

Yertle: Whitman, Colby and Bates are great schools that are target schools for you. My D had similar stats and goes to Whitman. She loves it and it is challenging but not cut-throat. You should explore what you want. If you like the West and being in a smaller city, Whitman is perfect. Pomona is a great school but not a shoo in for you by any means.

Also, Whitman seems right for you in terms of athletics…intramural and outdoor activities are huge but emphasis is on academics. The atmosphere is more relaxed perhaps than some of the East Coast colleges, but students are extremely serious and motivated.

@woogzmama Pomona seems awesome - bit far from where I am, though (East coast). I haven’t visited, so I’m not super comfortable with an ED there. Thanks for the insight!

@tleibman I know Pomona isn’t a shoo-in, none of my favorites are. Whitman does seem to fit the “likely” category well, and it seems awesome. Really the only caveat of Whitman is lack of name recognition on the East coast, but I’m not too concerned about that.

Update: I actually took some SAT Subject tests so that I could apply to Williams:

Math, Level 2: 800
Literature: 770

I applied ED to Bowdoin. I will hopefully hear back by Friday.

Holy Cross might be another school to look at. HC(don’t have to be religious) has very good Classics/Latin major and offers merit scholarships in that area. Holy Cross also has no frats.
