Caucasian Male, Junior
Public School in greater Boston area
GPA: 4.71
Class Rank: 5/369
SAT I: 2190 (670 CR, 740 Math, 780 Writing) - Will be taking again in October, definitely expecting a 2250 at least, aiming for 2300+. This score was done with nearly no prep or studying, and my 670 CR was well below what I was regularly getting on practice tests. 2300+ for a second time is definitely within reach.
SAT II:
Math II: 770
USH: 780
Physics: 750
APs:
USH - Definitely expecting a 5, very strong teacher and history has always been my strong point
Lang - Will probably be getting a 4 or 5

I would say that BU would probably see your safety and you will for sure get great scholarships from them

BC, NYU, UPenn, Duke would probably be good schools that are definately within reach, while the other Ivies might be a tad reach. Its reasonable to see you in Dartmouth or Brown, but difficult in Harvard, MIT, or Princeton.

Harvard, MIT, Princeton- pretty big reaches (they are for just about anyone)
UPenn, Dartmouth, Brown, Duke- slight reach. Duke might be a high match.
BC, BU, NYU- you’ll get in.

The CR score needs to come up 50 plus points for a serious shot at the ivies and math as well for HPM. Try the ACT. Being from Boston puts you in an especially brutal pool.

I think you have a fairly good chance at most of these schools. However, the ivies are reaches for everything, but being 1st generation will help. I just have one questions…you say you had “nearly no prep or studying” but then you say “what I was regularly getting on practice tests”…so did you prep? Just curious…it really doesn’t matter. I think your SAT scores will be fine, and your SAT 2s are great as well. I think anything 700 and above is good for the ivies. Remember, people below 2300 or even 2200 get into the top Ivies (HYP), as well as people with 2400s who get rejected. Do you know what you want to major in?

Well, I did not really prep like take a prep class or anything, and I took about three practice tests in the weeks preceding the test. This is in comparison to my 2-3 months of actually studying, prepping, and upwards of eight practice tests for the October test. So this is why I say no prep or studying, but I should have said minimal. I am completely undecided on my major. I definitely know I want to go on to a joint degree MBA/JD program, but I want 3-5 years of work experience in between undergrad and grad. In these years I want to get some type of business internship, so I am thinking Economics. However, I really enjoy math, but I am under the impression that math does not present great business internships or very many job opportunities in general. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I am just looking for something I enjoy that would present opportunities in the business world following my undergrad.
