bump 10 char

Your stats are in the range of the admitted students. With selective schools like Barnard I don’t think it’s possible to “chance” anyone - students who are qualified are rejected and others are admitted. A lot of it is building a diverse freshman class and it’s impossible to know who you are up against.

Thanks so much, I understand. Additionally, I have legacy at Barnard. Would that have any impact on admissions? I will be interviewing with the head admissions officer.

Being a legacy should help, I think. My D is at Wellesley (was not admitted to Barnard) and she knows several students there who are legacies. Of course, being a legacy in itself is not enough, but your stats are in the range. It also helps the admissions office know who is likely to accept an offer of admission.

I would say you are a slight reach to a miss. Your scores are good, but nothing about your app particularly seems to stand out.

Ok, thanks. I’ve tried to focus on research in the subject area that is of interest to me and relates to other of my EC’s. I’ve gotten two big internships and published a paper in a medical journal, and I thought that was unique. But I guess with all the AMAZING girls applying, thats less than stellar :/

bump 10 char

Just updating, I got a 2300 (800 CR, 800 W, 700 M) on the SAT’s, if that makes any difference. Barnard doesn’t look at them really, so it shouldn’t change much, right?

bump 10 char

It might not make a difference in terms of admission, but it could impact how much merit aid you might receive. Great job!

I don’t think Barnard gives merit aid, because its affiliated with Columbia, an Ivy, and they don’t give merit aid. So the score won’t make me a stronger candidate in general?

I really am not familiar enough with the Barnard process to know how the score will play. Have you tried asking on the Barnard board?

No…I haven’t!

Great idea, S&P. On a lot of the boards students who are admitted (or rejected or waitlisted) report their scores, gpas, ec’s, etc. It might be a good place to look to see the stats of students who are accepted and/or rejected. I’m always amazed by students who are rejected who have incredible scores/qualifications.

I actualy looked at the board, and my SAT’s are much higher than most admitted student, my GPA is the same or a bit lower (my weakness),my classes are a bit easier, but my extracurriculars are generally more in depth. So I really don’t know what to make of everything.

I also have leagcy, but that doesn’t really help much.

Well, I’m just an entering Barnard first year, but I would definitely say match. SAT etc. are great (though Barnard doesn’t care so much about them), GPA isn’t worrisome (I had a C and a few Bs…) and your extracurriculars seems strong. You definitely seem like a candidate who could be made or broken by a strong essay and application in general but I would still say match. Good luck!
