I agree. You have a very strong ACT (I assume it was ACT with Writing, not ACT without Writing–every selective college we have seen will take the ACT with Writing in place of SAT (sometimes in place of SAT + SAT II; sometimes they want SAT II’s as well). YOur grades are great, too, and your EC’s are fantastic! I would only suggest a few core colleges. You have a lot of reaches (low reaches and higher reaches), and I think you will likely get in several of them, but it is always safe to have some cores and a few safeties. I’m guessing that “NC State Univ” is a safety (I don’t know about that school), and perhaps U Michigan, UNC, and UVa are cores (core meaning you have a fairly good chance, but not for sure–not as sure as a safety). I don’t know a lot about those large public universities. I have heard that those 3 are more selective than most others. Are they harder on out-of-state applicants? Are any of them in-state for you? Hope you get into JHU!!

Solid chance for all of those, with all of those ECs taken into account.

My in state is UNC and yea Im guessing NC State is my safety. Should i get one more safety or another college with chances of admission?
it is ACT with Writing also…
For some reason Im feeling my ECs are lacking of something…

bumppp bump. advice please?

I think your ECs are fine – every college (except maybe HYP) accepts a ton of applicants who haven’t cured cancer, and you certainly seem to be involved. Yeah, your app doesn’t stand out above everyone else’s, but I think you have a good shot at all of your schools.

UNC-CH EA – match (I’m assuming, idk what it’s like for in-state)
UMich- EA – match
UVA- EA – no idea
JHU- ED (dream school) – high match
Duke – low reach
UChicago – low reach (for everyone)
UPenn – low reach/reach (for everyone)
WashU-StL – match
Cornell – high match/low reach
Vanderbilt – low match, I think?
Rice – idk, high match?
Emory – low match
NC state Univ – safety

You have an excellent chance at all these schools, especially at Hopkins ED. Those are great ECs BTW.

Thanks for the help on mine!!

Great Stats! Some of your EC’s are interesting. Also, that is a lot of volunteer work. That is a plus, but make sure you stress that to you it is more than just words on a page, or the number of hours. That it is actually important to you for more than college.

Good Luck!

bumpppp can anyone give me school by school chances? that would be appreciated

UNC, Mich, Virginia, Emory, and NC State are matches- the rest are reaches. Not everything is just your standardized test score- your ECs seriously lack and your GPA isn’t that great for those schools. If you have nice LORs and great essays you could get into all of those schools though

oohtobeagooner, thanks for your insight. I guess I will just have to do the best I can with LORs and the essays. In the end, everyone applying to the top colleges all have the same stats and its the ECs and the LORs and the Essays are what sets the good from the bad.

bumpppppp more adviceplease?

You’re chances are GREAT You have an excellent GPA & a great ACT Score . You’re extra curriculums are good because there aren’t a lot but they include high achievements within them.
