I think Academically you are very very strong with a good gpa, sat, and ap scores (I may be wrong with ap since I am not completely familiar as to what a good score is; I’m assuming a 4 is good).

However with your ECs i’m wondering whether you were committed to them cause I see a lot of them where you only participated for one year or you did it one year but didn’t continue. I can foresee this being a problem but I think it balances with your academics.

I think you have a good list of colleges and agree with the above poster with matches and reaches.

If you’re really concerned about getting rejected from colleges why not try and make a list of 1~3 safety schools that you’ll know you’ll get into and not regret. Other than that it looks good :)

I notice your SAT is projected…

robodebate12, do u think my rank is too low though? anyways, my passion is debate so I am focusing on that for my application.

stewta4, i’m glad you noticed…the scores come out TOMORROW! so nervewracking…but I tried to make it as realistic as possible; like i’m not trying to lie to myself.

You’ll definitely need more matches and maybe 1 or 2 more safeties. Try to cut back your list by only including schools you really want to go to or it could become really expensive to apply to all of those.

IK me too. Well, I didn’t take the SAT(thank god) just some subject tests, but I’m super anxious for my scores. Post your scores on here tmmrw and then I will chance you haha! When you say junior, does that mean you are going to be a junior next year as in class of 2013?

Are u a 2013 grad? if so i wish you good luck. The AP and SAT scores that are projected are easier said then done.

anyways doesn’t ED mean early decision? if so, you can only do ED to one of your schools.

haha junior as in i’m going to be a senior, so class of 2012 grad! I really need to start writing my college essays this summer…:/

stewta4, do u know when (exact time) the scores come out? I heard it’s like 5 AM eastern time but i’m not sure? I’m probably going to retake the SAT in October anyway…sigh.

and chickenonrice, i know i can only do ED at one school, i will actually only apply to one for ED obviously, i just want to know which school i’d have the best chance for ED…my other option is applying to EA for Stanford, since I have double legacy there. But I heard that legacy doesn’t really help for Stanford…so I don’t really know how to maximize my chances…ED at another school or EA for Stanford? sdlfhaedghasdgasdflujasdf.

REA @ Stanford helps, but isnt amazing
Stats are okay, decent EC’s, nothing that really jumps out
SAT’s come out tomorrow actually I believe (mine do)

-Brown ED - low reach/reach
-NYU Stern - reach
-UMichigan - high match (Ross - low reach)
-Northwestern ED - low reach
-UChicago - low reach/high match
-Georgetown - low reach/high match
-UNC - high match/low reach
-Cornell ED - low reach
-Duke ED - low reach/high match
-UCLA - in
-UC Berkeley - in
-Emory - high match/match
-UT Austin (safety) | UT BHP, Plan II - in

Update with your SAT when it comes out. Good luck, and thanks for the chance!

SO.
Of course SAT didn’t turn out the way I expected…

So I ended up getting:

720 CR
700 M
690 Writing (essay: 10/12)

Which adds up to a small, subpar score of 2110.
So obviously, I have to take it again in October.
Sigh. Applying for college is so nerve wracking when you already know it’s going to be an uphill battle with these stats.

Do a lot of these need to be re-chanced cuz of my SAT score? lol. ■■■.

That stinks, I’m sorry. Same situation just happened to me, thought I would do better than I did. I’m considering retaking it. Anyways, the score you got is not terrible, anything over a 2100 is pretty decent for the application from what I’ve heard, but you should retake it if you have time before applications are due.

can anyone chance me now that i have the updated SAT Score (2110)?

Thanks, I’ll gladly chance back if given link.

You have ec’s that could be used for great essays like going to china, and you show a passion for debate/law. With your SAT, I would say you look fine for Emory but the ivies and others may be improbable. However, you are def in range and will not have trouble improving, and if if that improvement is minor you still have outstanding stats and are a contender for anything on your list, especially with EA if you decide on one of the reaches. Best of luck to you!

thanks wahoo19!

anyone else? do i have enough leadership positions?

Your SAT score is pretty solid - don’t try to waste time retaking it unless you really really want to - maybe try the ACT?

-Brown ED - reach/some match
-NYU Stern - match
-UMichigan - high match
-Northwestern ED - match fo sure
-UChicago - low reach
-Georgetown- high match/low reach
-UNC- high match
-Cornell ED high match/low reach
-Duke ED high match/low reach
-UCLA fo so match
-UC Berkeley low match/reach
-Emory yep, match
-UT Austin (safety): DEfinitily in

Develop your passion for Chinese. Chinese really jumped out at me on your app. (5 on Chinese test, 800 ST, going to teach children in China). I would start a Chinese club, it would help you to develop your passion a bit more, and it would be a blast! I think you could have a great chance at many of these schools! Just develop your interests a bit more, do some things with your love of Chinese, and maybe hold a debate for charity. Giving back to your community is rewarding, and helps you increase your depth in a subject area.

Good luck with your admissions! I honestly think you have a solid chance at any of these schools, provided your essays are unique and true to yourself. Your SATs are fine, by the way. :)

Oh, I forgot -

-Brown ED reach
-NYU Stern reach
-UMichigan match
-Northwestern ED match
-UChicago match
-Georgetown low reach
-UNC match
-Cornell ED reach
-Duke ED w/ ED, match
-UCLA match
-UC Berkeley low reach
-Emory match

Thanks for chancing me!
I honestly think you have a shot at these schools. And like you said, your essays must go to show for it. What are you planning on majoring in? If it’s International Relations related (judging for Amnesty Intl), I would consider retaking USH.
I know people from my school who are less qualified and are applying to even higher up ivies (though I doubt they’ll get in haha).
