Hi, I'm going to be a senior next year. I wanted to know my chances of getting admitted to Cornell's CALS. I want to go into the veterinary field. My cumulative GPA is 4.07. Also, my class rank is like 2/473 or something. My first SAT scores were M:600 CR: 590 W:610. My second time around I got a M:590 CR: 610 and W:680. My SAT subject test's were horrendous, considering I hadn't been in a biology class for over a year. Also, the testing conditions were terrible. Lot's of noise. US History: 590 Math lvl 1: 560 Bio E: 500. Aside from the terrible test scores, I am involved in a lot of EC's. I run cross country and track. I also participate in Varsity swimming. I am in the biomedical sciences program at my school, and have performed various lab techniques. I showcased the Biomed program at the USA Science and Engineering festival in DC. I volunteer in a local hospital. I am also in Bay Ecology Club, Varsity club, and NHS(treasurer). I am also in Spanish Honor Society. I have multiple volunteer hours in these activities. I lead VBS crews at my church. I have also mentored at my church for confirmation. I am currently involved in a summer internship at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in MRICD(Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense), where I am studying the effects of nerve agents on the liver. I get to work in a government laboratory with very advanced equipment in this internship. I will also be receiving animal handling training through the internship, where I will learn to euthanize an animal. I am also trying to volunteer at my local Humane Society, as well as at a veterinary office. I have shadowed a veterinarian. I am in the animal club at my school. I am white and my parent's income is under $100,000 a year. I took 2 AP classes as a junior, 1 as a sophomore, and I will be taking 4 as a senior. I would have taken more, but the biomedical program took up classes. I will be taking classes at my local community college while involved with school, so I will be very busy next year. These classes will be for physical education credits, which was entirely up to me because I could have just taken the course at my school(I need phys ed to graduate). I choose to take them at the college next year so that I may take an additional AP class. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO TO IMPROVE MY CHANCES! I HAVE ONE MORE SAT TESTING DATE BEFORE THE ED DEADLINE! SHOULD I RETAKE THE SAT OR THE SAT SUBJECT TESTS!! ALSO, THE CALS DOES NOT REQUIRE SAT SUBJECT TESTS BUT DOES RECOMMEND ONE IN A MATH AND ONE IN A SCIENCE. I MAY ALSO TAKE THE ACT IN SEPTEMBER.Thanks!!!!!!

Definitely, definitely retake your SAT Is. Cornell doesn’t consider the writing section, so right now your score is pretty much 1200/1600. Really bad. At this rate you’ll never get in even as valedictorian. Yeah, val helps a lot, but not when your SAT I is this low.

Your SAT IIs are bad too. Retake them if you can, but focus on SAT Is. If you can retake them without taking your concentration away from SAT Is, then do it.

You’ll get a fair chancing once you retake your SAT Is.

Edit: i just saw you have already taken it twice. Try the ACTs. It is highly unlikely that things will turn out well for you to keep going on like that. Cornell wants you to report all your SAT scores, so do ACT instead.

Hey thanks for the response Colene! I’m assuming you attended Cornell or something? You are pretty active on this site. Anyway, I really need to improve my CR and M score. I’m not worrying as much about my Writing. Do you have any tips for improving those scores? I don’t get it, my math score decreased, and my CR stayed about the same. I’m not too sure what’s wrong. Also, I think I’m going to try the ACT in September. Unfortunately, there is only one more SAT test date in October before the ED deadline. I’m still not sure if I should retake the SAT 1 or take a stab at the SAT subject tests again.

EDIT: Actually, I guess I will just retake the SAT 1.
