Please, chance me at Fordham?

Hey, it’s my first post on here. I’ve been lurking on the forums for a while now and wanted to give the forums a shot. I’m looking to see what my chances at Fordham University is.

GPA: 3.7 UW, 4.0-4.1 W
Sat: I have not taken the SAT yet because I’m a sophomore, but my PSAT was a 1120 out of 1520. Yeah, I know- it’s average , but I’m looking to pull my SAT up and possibly take the ACT test.
Class Rank: 30 out of 384 (Top seven percent out of my class)

Extra-Curriculars:
Choir for two years (Freshman and Sophomore year)
Volunteer work at my student store
Black Student Union Member- Treasurer
Guitar player (well…learning, but I do play a mean Guitar Hero ;D )

I plan to do more volunteer work and join more clubs (Interact, GSA, etc.) I was also invited into PLUS, but I wasn’t interested in it. I might have a few more EC’s though.

Awards:
Distinguished Scholarship Award (Most Quarters
Top Participation Award (Awarded in my English class)
Honor Roll
Perfect Attendance Award (not that this means anything, but still… haha)

In middle school, Duke University invited me to their summer program (Duke TIP), but I was unable to go due to financial reasons (low-income). I was in the National Junior Beta Club from the 6th to 8th grade, but that was a while ago. My school doesn’t have a chapter I believe. I was also invited into the Gifted and Talented Children’s Program. I took the admittance test, but I didn’t join (I think…I was young at the time so it’s quite unclear to me)

I’m taking AP Lit and US History next years as well. I’m a minority (black) if this adds to anything. What are my chances at Fordham? Will I be eligible for any merit scholarships as well? I can’t afford the school, so I’d meed at least 30k in a merit scholarship (possibly Dean) in order to attend since my parent only makes around 32k a year- we live in CA. One parent will most likely not help at all with tuition due to unfortunate circumstances. Thanks!

One of the things about Fordham is that they say they don’t meet full need. Being a minority should help also. Take the ACT, sometimes that works better than the SAT ( I know it did for my kid). My daughter’s good friend who did very very well on the SAT was accepted into Fordham Honors, nice scholarship and grants but his income was very very low and Fordham didn’t meet his need.

You live in California, I don’t know what it is with Cali kids, but they seem to not want to go to a UC. My daughter was accepted to UCSD and UCSB and she would have loved to have attended SD but there was no money given (we live in NY).

Run the calculator to see what the COA would be with your stats, because it usually is pretty accurate. Remember tuition is over $48K a year and that’s NOT including housing with the mandatory meal plan. You’re looking at another $18K+ when you add that in. Fordham is expensive.

Though sticker price is high, Fordham’s discount is close to or over 50% so 30-40K for a NYC school with all the internship opportunities and networking is quite a deal.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks, everyone. I’m currently looking at another college since the cost is way too expensive.
