Please "chance" me AT from CC to UC or Cal State OLD BAD GRADES NOW ALL As

I have a bad situation. I went to a CC in another part of Southern California and got a lot of Ws an F that I am retaking online, a D and lots of Cs. Also had some As, a few semesters worth in my old major, which some transfer. Basically my GPA for UC was calculated at a 2.1 and my Cal State is at a 2.8. That is only based on the grades from when I was an addict not in recovery who's life was headed for a cemetary. I got sober and eventually have made it back into school. I am a totally different person now and older, I've gotten an A on every report, paper, test etc since I started. It's still only my second semester though. I was told that because of the old grades I was probably screwed and might even have to attend an online university ... My major is psychology, and I intend to earn a masters with the intent of MFT certification so that I can be a therapist and work with addicts in the early stages of recovery. I have about 40 units to go till I'm done with the AT and if I keep up the trend I still won't have a very high GPA, especially for UC which is where I wanted to go. UCI. The Cal State in my area doesn't consider me a local because I took so many units at this other CC in the past which isn't in their service area. I would need at least a 3.5 for Fullerton for example. I have been looking at San Marcos as well as Long Beach as possible alternatives if UCI or UCR or UCLB don't work out. The UCs will look at more than just your GPA when you apply including an essay, perhaps they might look at the current trend of straight As instead of the past. I'm wanting to know what you guys think, I was totally heartbroken when I found out that all those old bad grades might ruin my chance at an education. Please tell me any info you have on transferable ATs to Cal States near Orange County or UCs. If anyone knows of anyone who was in a similar boat as I am that might have some way of encouraging me it would be appreciated. The transfer counselor really took the wind out of my sails with this news. Thanks.
